About Our JobThis position manages, organizes, supervises, and assigns work to Teamster and ATU Bargaining employees and participates in the maintenance and repair of all transit vehicles and support vehicles assigned to Sarasota County Transportation Authority.
Job DescriptionSupervises the maintenance and repair of heavy-duty fixed route buses and support vehicles. Works with hybrid and diesel-powered heavy-duty buses. Plans daily work programs for technicians. Assists technicians with more difficult repair problems. Provides technical or physical assistance to shop technicians. Assesses fleet condition and prioritizes work based on operational necessity. Monitor bus attendant duties/ processes.
Promotes quality control on shop production through final inspections and road test. Determines if repair should be made in the field, in the shop or if towing is necessary. Assists with development and coordination of fleet campaigns and shop practices. Makes decision on what parts to be repaired or replaced. Works with NAPA and outside county approved vendors to coordinate repairs, parts, and services.
On occasion will be required to perform maintenance and repair of all transit vehicles and staff vehicles.
Ensures that all repairs and parts are recorded properly on work orders and closes them in timely manner.
Generates/ updates daily shop reports based on work performed and what is to be scheduled in for service.
Makes periodic checks on the shop floor of work in progress to ensure quality and that schedules are adhered to. Inspects facilities for safety issues. Repairs equipment and facilities such as vault receiver and bus wash. Perform applicant screening and interviews for maintenance staffing as assigned by manager/superintendent.
Manages proactive assessments of fraud awareness, prevention, detection and risk mitigation activities in areas of responsibility; oversees financial, compliance, operational and performance audits; reviews audit findings and ensures appropriate controls are established and implemented.
Oversee cleanliness of shop, facility and fleet. Coordinate maintenance and upkeep as needed with assigned employees and county support systems. Keep management team updated of work in progress to ensure continuity across other shifts. Gain approval in advance for out of ordinary expenditures.
About YouMinimum Qualifications
A High School Diploma or its equivalent and four (4) years related experience performing maintenance and general operations work in a field related to the position duties including mechanical experience in automotive or heavy bus/truck repair.
A minimum of one-year supervisory experience is required (lead worker or acting in a supervisory capacity may be counted).
Valid state Driver's License.
Class "B" Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with passenger and air brake endorsements required within the first six (6) months from date of hire.
Preferred
Qualification:
A Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university is preferred. ASE certification in Transit Brakes (H4) and Transit Steering and Suspension (H5) preferred, but not required at time of hire. EPA 608 and 609 certifications preferred, but not required at time of hire.
Subject to Passing Substance Screening:
This position is subject to passing a pre-employment substance screening. An applicant who fails to pass a required drug screening test shall be disqualified from employment in any class for a period of five (5) years.
Pay: $24.06 - $31.04
