Job Summary

Drivers operate heavy‑duty trucks with front, side, or rear‑end load lift attachments depending on the line of business and the type of truck. They transport material to a disposal, transfer, or recycle facility when trucks reach legal load capacity. Commercial drivers pick up containers of waste or recyclable material, sometimes weighing over 1,000 pounds, and navigate congested roadways, driveways, alleyways, and lots, requiring skilled backing maneuvers.

Residential drivers collect household waste or recyclable material, safely maneuver vehicles in residential environments, and similarly navigate congested areas. Roll‑off drivers prepare, load, and transport large mobile open‑top or compactor containers, operating in tight overhead environments and industrial routes, also requiring disciplined backing skills.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Operate vehicle in accordance with Waste Management Safety and Life Critical Rules, OSHA, and DOT requirements as well as all local, state, and federal laws.
  • Perform pre‑ and post‑trip inspections and document checks using the standard DVIR.
  • Report unsafe situations or service‑related issues to Operations Manager or Dispatch immediately.
  • Attend and participate in all scheduled training, briefings, and meetings as required.
  • Work closely with Operations Manager to improve route efficiencies and identify best practices.
  • Notify Operations Manager of any incidents, accidents, injuries, or property damage.
  • Inform Operations Manager or Dispatch of service interruptions, closed or impassable streets, heavy receptacles, or safety hazards.
  • Communicate customer requests to Operations Manager or Dispatch.
  • Completely dump all receptacles and leave the customer’s location clean and free of debris.
  • Follow route assignments and complete end‑of‑day documentation and check‑out process.
  • Perform duties scheduled by Operations Manager or Dispatch and assist other drivers to meet customer needs.
Qualifications

A.

Required Qualifications
  • 1 year operating a vehicle requiring a CDL or 1 year equivalent military driving within the last 7 years.
  • Able to read, write, and speak English well enough to interact with the public, understand traffic signs, respond to official questions, and complete records or reports.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Legally eligible to work in the country where the position is located.
  • (CDL)‑Class A Commercial Driver License with air‑brake endorsement upon hire.
  • (CDL)‑Class B Commercial Driver License with air‑brake endorsement upon hire.

Preferred Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED (accredited).
Physical Requirements
  • Standing, walking, lifting, pushing, pulling, crouching, reaching, talking, hearing.
