Senior Cost Estimator – Heavy Civil Construction

McMillen, Inc. is seeking a highly skilled Senior Cost Estimator with a minimum of 10 years of experience in heavy civil construction. The position is based in the Boise, e and requires experience in areas such as bridges, dams, spillways, hydroelectric facilities, and environmental civil construction projects including stream restoration, fish hatcheries, and habitat restoration.

• Analyze project plans, specifications, and other documentation to prepare time, cost, materials, and labor estimates.
• Conduct detailed quantity take-offs and develop unit price costs.
• Evaluate project feasibility by assessing risks, determining budget requirements, and considering alternative construction methods.
• Liaise with subcontractors, suppliers, and clients to obtain competitive pricing and ensure comprehensive bid coverage.
• Utilize estimating software and other tools to develop accurate and detailed estimates.
• Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and other team members to ensure alignment on project scope, budgets, and timelines.
• Review historical data and market trends to ensure the accuracy and competitiveness of estimates.
• Participate in bid reviews and presentations, providing detailed explanations of estimates and supporting data.
• Gather details and maintain current market data to accurately estimate construction, material, and soft costs.
• Prepare written documents and narratives to support the cost estimate review process by in‑house review teams and clients.
• Understand the design‑build process and have experience working with design teams during the bid process.

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field (preferred).
• 5–10 years of experience in estimating within the heavy civil engineering or construction industry.
• Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, and industry practices.
• Excellent analytical, mathematical, and problem‑solving skills.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite is required; familiarity with estimating software such as HCSS or Bluebeam is a plus.
• Regular, predictable attendance is required.
• Ability to work effectively with others.

• Pay Range: $125,000 – $175,000 (DOE)
