Public Works Engineering Technician
Public Works is currently hiring for several essential positions that play a critical role in maintaining the Town's infrastructure. To help fill these important vacancies, the Town has approved both a Sign-On Incentive Program and an Employee Referral Incentive Program.
Sign-On Incentive – $1,500
The $1,500 Sign-On Incentive is available for newly hired Public Works employees (excluding Administrative Staff).
Key details:
- Paid on the employee's first paycheck following hire.
- Limited to one sign-on incentive per employee while the program is in effect.
- Employees who leave Town employment within 90 days must repay $750.
- Incentives are paid through payroll and are subject to applicable taxes.
Employee Referral Incentive – $1,500

For eligible Public Works positions (excluding Administrative Staff), employees may receive:
- $500 when the referred employee is hired.
- $1,000 after the referred employee successfully completes six months of employment.
- $1,500 total incentive.
Additional information:
- Applicants must identify the referring employee on their employment application for the referral to qualify.
- Incentives are paid through payroll and are subject to applicable taxes.
- Provides technical assistance to engineers, contractors, Town staff and the general public.
- Researches and responds to inquiries regarding utility locations, construction standards, floodplain information, property boundary information, etc.
- Prepares drawings and exhibits using AutoCAD software.
- Prepares and assists with the development of engineering cost estimates for Town capital projects.
- Communicates with engineers, contractors, Town staff and the general public.
- Attends project related meetings with external customers as directed.
- Operates and administers the division's project management software, Procore, to manage tasks and user permissions, track workflow, and generate reports.
- Maintains the document management system, Laserfiche, for the purposes of record keeping and archiving.
- Coordinates and assists with construction closeout requirements and procedures.
- Assists with inspection of public infrastructure construction and reconstruction by contractors on an as needed basis.
- Assists with property acquisitions and condemnations.
- Assists the general public with inquiries related to capital improvement projects.
- Operates various types of office equipment to include computers, copiers, and printers.
- Adheres to departmental, personnel, and safety policies and procedures.
- Informs supervisor of all work activities.
- Assists co-workers and other divisions, as needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned or required.
Minimum Qualifications
- A High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED) is required.
- Two (2) years of experience in CAD design within civil engineering or related field is required.

Desired Qualifications
- Two (2) years of experience working with a municipal government or assisting with design of municipal infrastructure is preferred.
- Must be familiar with and have a technical knowledge of accepted engineering practices.
- Skill in identifying problems, evaluating information, and developing practical solutions.
- Skill in performing mathematical calculations accurately.
- Must have an ability to read and interpret construction drawings, maps and related drawings.
- Must have a general knowledge of modern office practices and procedures.
- Must be skilled in use of personal computer including Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, AutoCAD, GIS mapping, email and internet.
- Must have excellent English oral and written communicative skills to include spelling, grammar, punctuation, and sentence structure.
- Ability to work effectively with upset customers while maintaining a pleasant and friendly demeanor.
- Must be able to understand and carry out oral and written directives; work well under pressure and stress; handle multiple tasks; prioritize and organize work assignments.
