Position: Maintenance Worker-ULM (Water) (Hiring Incentive: $1,500)

Sign-On Incentive Program

Sign-On Incentive – $1,500

The $1,500 Sign-On Incentive is available for newly hired Public Works employees (excluding Administrative Staff).

Key details:

  • Paid on the employee's first paycheck following hire.
  • Limited to one sign-on incentive per employee while the program is in effect.
  • Employees who leave Town employment within 90 days must repay $750.
  • Incentives are paid through payroll and are subject to applicable taxes.
Employee Referral Incentive Program

Employee Referral Incentive – $1,500

For eligible Public Works positions (excluding Administrative Staff), employees may receive:

  • $500 when the referred employee is hired.
  • $1,000 after the referred employee successfully completes six months of employment.
  • $1,500 total incentive.

Responsibilities

Under direct supervision, performs routine and repetitive tasks related to the construction, repair, and maintenance of the Town's water distribution and wastewater collection systems, as well as other water and sewer utility operations.

  • Constructs, maintains, and replaces water and sewer mains or service lines. Inspects, diagnoses, and repairs failures in water and sewer mains. Operates various construction equipment; builds and adjusts manholes and clean-outs; installs and repairs fire hydrants and valves; prepares trenches; rods and cleans sewer lines; excavates water and sewer mains and services, exposing them for repair.
  • Excavates trenches and ditches for the installation of new mains and/or service lines.
  • Operates sewer cleaning equipment, as needed, to clean mains, services, manholes, and spills.
  • Disassembles, cleans, repairs, replaces, and tests defective or worn parts on water meters.
  • Maintains water leaks and sewer lines; installs and changes water meters and pit pads; and performs other water distribution, production, and collection tasks.
  • Performs general maintenance duties to include completing work order tickets for each task performed.
  • Operates various light to heavy construction equipment and tools including tractors, backhoes, dump trucks, sewer machine, jackhammers, water main tapping machine, air compressors, trailers, compactors, weed‑eaters, augers, tillers, welders, cut off saws, vehicles, power tools, and hand held tools.
  • Works safely near high-speed vehicle traffic areas, including medians, rights‑of‑way, etc.
  • Conducts daily inspections and preventative maintenance of vehicles, equipment, and tools. Tasks include washing, checking safe and proper operation, servicing, checking fluid levels and lubrication points, inspecting tire pressure, cleaning filters, screens and wind shields, and ensuring road worthiness by verifying lights, horns, braking systems, wipers, and hazard equipment are in working condition and loads are properly secured.
  • Identifies and informs supervisor of potential hazards, liability concerns, problem areas, public inquiries, and the status of work activities.
  • Adheres to personnel, safety, and department policies and procedures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED) is required.
  • Must have a valid state‑issued driver's license, and the driving record must comply with Town policy.
  • Must be able to obtain a valid Texas Class "A" Commercial Driver's License, with proper endorsements and without restrictions, within six (6) months from the date of hire. Your driving record must be in compliance with Town policy.
Physical Abilities

Must be able to talk, read, see, walk, hear, and follow oral and written directives. Must also have good hand, foot, and eye coordination to operate and repair equipment and vehicles. Must be able to operate maintenance equipment and perform strenuous physical activities, including exerting up to 100 lbs. of pressure, lifting up to 100 lbs. of equipment and heavy objects several times a day, shoveling, crawling, bending, kneeling, climbing on and off…
