Sign-On Incentive Program
The $1,500 Sign-On Incentive is available for newly hired Public Works employees (excluding Administrative Staff).
- Paid on the employee's first paycheck following hire.
- Limited to one sign‑on incentive per employee while the program is in effect.
- Employees who leave Town employment within 90 days must repay $750.
- Incentives are paid through payroll and are subject to applicable taxes.

Under direct supervision, performs routine and repetitive tasks in constructing, maintaining, and repairing the Town's streets, roads, bridges, medians, right‑of‑way, gutters, curbs, sidewalks, alleys, drainage systems, and other public areas.
Key Responsibilities- Clean, repair, and maintain roads, bridges, medians, right‑of‑ways, alleys, curbs, gutters, sidewalks, and other public areas.
- Perform routine physical tasks such as working asphalt and concrete, loading and unloading trucks, laying pipelines, repairing manholes, patching potholes, overlaying streets, sealing cracks, removing and replacing concrete, setting grades, assisting in surveying, cutting brush, trees, mowing and weeding.
- Operate, repair, and maintain vehicles and light equipment such as tractors, mowers, loaders, trenchers, bucket trucks, augers, jackhammers, skill saws, drills, bolt cutters, pothole patchers, rollers, dump trucks, 1‑to‑5 ton vehicles.
- Work safely in proximity to high‑speed vehicle traffic, medians, and right‑of‑ways.
- Identify and inform supervisor of potential hazards, liability exposures, problem areas, public inquiries, and status of work activities.
- Conduct daily inspections and preventative maintenance of vehicles, equipment, and tools.
- Assist other departments and perform additional duties as required.
- Adhere to departmental, personnel, and safety rules and regulations.
- Adhere to standing‑by schedule for emergency repairs at night and weekends.
- Train other employees in operation, repair, and safety techniques of construction equipment and in daily job duties.
- High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED).
- Valid state‑issued Class "C" driver's license.
- Ability to obtain a valid Texas Class "A" commercial driver's license with proper endorsements and without restrictions within six months from the date of hire. Driver’s record must comply with Town policy.
- Street maintenance (concrete and asphalt) repair or construction work experience.
- Light to heavy construction equipment operation experience.
- Talk, read, see, walk, hear, and follow oral and written directives.
- Good hand/foot/eye coordination to operate equipment.
- Operate maintenance equipment and perform strenuous physical activities including exerting up to 100 lbs of pressure and lifting up to 100 lbs of equipment several times per day.
- Shovel, crawl, bend, kneel, climb on and off equipment, and operate vibrating equipment.
- Work indoors, underground, outdoors, in confined spaces, trenches, level, slippery, sloping, unstable, and muddy terrain; in noisy conditions; and in adverse environmental conditions including inclement weather, heat, sun exposure, dust, mist, hazardous conditions, street traffic, insects, noxious plants, and snakes.
- Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
- Knowledge of installation of concrete and asphalt materials used in street maintenance and skill to operate heavy to light construction equipment, vehicles, small power tools, and equipment safely.
- Carpentry skills are preferred.
- Exercise good judgment, make competent decisions, handle multiple projects, meet deadlines, and work well under pressure and stress.
- Work extensive hours and respond within 30 minutes to an on‑call or emergency callback as required.
- Maintain effective and pleasant working relationships with coworkers, supervisors, and the general public at all times.
