Position: Heavy Equipment Operator - Street Services (Hiring Incentive: $1,500)

Street Maintenance Worker

Public Works is currently hiring for several essential positions that play a critical role in maintaining the Town's infrastructure. To help fill these important vacancies, the Town has approved both a Sign-On Incentive Program and an Employee Referral Incentive Program.

Sign-On Incentive – $1,500

The $1,500 Sign-On Incentive is available for newly hired Public Works employees (excluding Administrative Staff).

Key details:

  • Paid on the employee's first paycheck following hire.
  • Limited to one sign-on incentive per employee while the program is in effect.
  • Employees who leave Town employment within 90 days must repay $750.
  • Incentives are paid through payroll and are subject to applicable taxes.

Employee Referral Incentive – $1,500

For eligible Public Works positions (excluding Administrative Staff), employees may receive:

  • $500 when the referred employee is hired.
  • $1,000 after the referred employee successfully completes six months of employment.
  • $1,500 total incentive.

Additional information:

  • Applicants must identify the referring employee on their employment application for the referral to qualify.
  • Incentives are paid through payroll and are subject to applicable taxes.

Under direct supervision, operates various street construction equipment and tools to construct, repair, and maintain the Town's streets, bridges, medians, right of ways, gutters, curbs, sidewalks, alleys, drainage systems, and other public areas within the Town.

Examples of Duties

• Cleans, repairs, and maintains roads, bridges, medians, right of ways, alleys, curbs, gutters, sidewalks, and other public areas within the Town.

• Performs routine and repetitive, strenuous physical tasks such as hand working asphalt and concrete as it is placed; loading and unloading trucks; laying pipelines and repairing manholes; patching pot holes and overlaying of streets; sealing cracks in asphalt and concrete; remove and replace concrete to include form setting to finishing; reading grades and setting grade stakes; assisting in surveying; cutting brush and trees;

mowing and weed-eating high grass and weeds; and maintaining clean street intersections, medians, and alleys.

• Operates, repairs, and maintains vehicles and various heavy equipment and tools such as tractors, mowers, front end and back end loaders, heavy trenchers, bucket trucks, augers, maintainers, jackhammers, skill saws; drills; bolt cutters; pothole patchers; rollers; dump trucks; motor graders; 1 ton to 5 ton vehicles; etc as a primary responsibility. Oversees the daily activities of crew members and completion of work orders in absence of crew leader as a primary responsibility.

• Works safely when working in close proximity to high-speed vehicle traffic areas, along medians, and right-of-ways.

• Identifies and informs supervisor of potential hazards, liability exposures, problem areas, public inquiries of the general public, and the status of work activities.

• Conducts inspections and preventative maintenance, on a daily basis, on vehicles, equipment, and tools including washing, checking safe and proper operation, and servicing as a primary responsibility.

• Assists other departments and performs other duties as needed.

• Adheres to departmental, personnel, and safety rules and regulations.

• Adheres to stand-by schedule as assigned for emergency repairs at night and weekends.

• Trains other employees in operation, repair, and safety techniques of construction equipment and in daily job duties and responsibilities.

• Loads and unloads supplies, equipment and tools, etc. on and off of vehicles and equipment.

Minimum Qualifications

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

A High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED) is required. Must possess a valid Texas Class "C" Drivers License. Must be able to obtain a valid Texas Class "A" Commercial Driver's License, with proper endorsements and without restrictions, within six (6) months from the date of hire. Your driving record must be in compliance with Town policy.
