Description
Do you have experience operating a 6-color Heidelberg sheetfed offset press with coater in a folding carton environment? If so, we'd love to hear from you! As the Offset Press Operator, you are responsible for operating the printing press, ensuring safe and efficient operation of this equipment, completing all required quality checks, collecting ERP system data, and performing basic housekeeping and preventive maintenance tasks.
Responsibilities- Receive pallets of sheeted paper/board from inventory.
- Inspect pallets when received from inventory and verify them to the job order (ticket).
- Set up the machine to specifications on the job order (ticket) and verify the setup prior to starting the run.
- Follow all Fortis procedures for quality verifications and setup, including the Job Check Procedures, and complete and sign off on all required quality checks.
- Utilize the company ERP system (Radius) to log jobs and job progress, keeping notes for any special situations.
- Monitor the job while running to ensure quality standards are met.
- Troubleshoot the machine during and after runs, working with the maintenance department as necessary to keep the machine in good working order.
- Communicate with Management and/or Scheduler regarding issues with the cartons, including over or under runs, carton quality, or r questions.
- Participate in the end-of-shift handshake to transition the next operator, noting any active or ongoing issues and confirming machine cleanliness.
- Maintain the work area and machines in a clean and orderly condition, following prescribed Fortis policies and safety regulations.
- Participate in continuous improvement projects as requested.

Education and Experience
- HS diploma or equivalent.
- At least 5 years of press or printing related experience preferred.
- 5 years of manufacturing work experience preferred.
- Experience running 4-color process and spot colors with a coater (or similar machinery).
- Understanding of maintaining ink/water balance.
- Understanding of spectrometers.
- Good verbal communication skills.
- Ability to read and understand an English job ticket.
- Ability to read a ruler and perform basic math.
- Proactive, detail-oriented, and able to bring problems or inconsistencies to management’s attention.
- Team player.
- Mechanical aptitude necessary to understand equipment function and troubleshoot.
- Basic computer knowledge required.

- Willing to attend required training courses or sessions related to the job as assigned.
- Lifting, sitting, standing, crouching, repetitive tasks. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. regularly and up to 75 lbs. with assistance.
- Pass a pre-employment drug test and be subject to random drug screening.
- Regular exposure to dust and noise in the production environment.
- Warehouse environment temperatures may be influenced by outside temperatures.
- Safety shoes and eye protection are highly recommended in the production area.
