Overview
We seek a full-time on-site Staff Electrical Engineering Manager. This position is responsible for overseeing the electrical engineering department, as well as guiding the team in the design, development, and optimization of electrical systems and products. This role requires a strategic leader with a deep understanding of electrical engineering principles, exceptional project management skills, and the ability to collaborate across multiple disciplines to achieve company goals.
This role demands a balance of technical expertise, managerial acumen, and strategic vision. This position reports to the Director of Engineering.
- Lead, mentor, and inspire a team of senior and junior electrical engineers, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and professional growth.
- Manage performance, provide constructive feedback, and support career development for team members.
- Oversee recruitment, onboarding, and training of new engineering staff.
- Develop and implement strategic plans for electrical engineering initiatives, aligning with overall company objectives and growth strategies.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements, technology adoption, and innovation to enhance electrical engineering capabilities and project outcomes.
- Provide technical guidance and support in the resolution of complex electrical engineering challenges and design issues.
- Review and approve electrical engineering schematics, layouts, component selection, calculations, and documentation to ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations.
- Document and implement best practices in electrical engineering design.
- Promote effective communication and teamwork within the electrical engineering department and across the organization.
- Support business development efforts by contributing electrical engineering knowledge to the writing of proposals, white papers, responding to RFIs, and participating in proposal reviews.
- Work closely with Program Managers to establish technical work breakdown structure for electrical engineering tasks on development programs.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for electrical engineering matters, both internally and with external stakeholders.
- Generate and present technical briefings to company staff and customers when requested.
- Contribute innovative ideas for product development and process improvement efforts.
- Perform other duties as necessary when directed to do so to support business needs.
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or a related engineering discipline.
- 15+ years of experience in an Electrical Engineering role or an equivalent combination of education and experience, with at least 3-5 years in a managerial or leadership role.
- Strong technical background in Electrical Engineering.
- Strong track record of successfully managing complex electrical engineering projects and leading high-performing teams in a high-tech or engineering-intensive environment.
- Strong track record of designing and developing manufacturable products.
- Expertise in electrical design, power systems, and electronics.
- High proficiency with engineering design tools (e.g., Altium) and project management software.
- Understanding of embedded systems programming and development, including knowledge of microcontrollers, microprocessors, and associated firmware.
- Proficiency in signal processing techniques and systems.
- Understanding of EMC standards, testing, and mitigation techniques.
- Familiarity with industry standards and regulating bodies such as IEC, UL, and IEEE.
- Experience with simulation and modeling tools like MATLAB/Simulink, SPICE, Field Modeling.
- Experience in integrating electrical systems with mechanical and software components.
- Experience in reliability engineering practices, including failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA) and reliability testing of circuit boards.
- Ability to analyze system performance, including thermal analysis, signal integrity, and power analysis.
- Direct experience creating or modifying engineering development processes.
- Ability to lead highly technical engineers.
- Ability to mentor junior engineers.
