Ergon, Inc. is seeking a strategic and hands‑on Accounting Director to lead the accounting function for our Energy & Specialty Solutions (ESS) segment. ESS is comprised primarily of entities engaged in the refining and marketing of specialty oils and the manufacture and marketing of specialty chemicals. This role will provide financial leadership, ensure accurate and timely reporting, strengthen internal controls, and partner with operational leadership to support informed business decisions.

- Oversee and lead the accounting department servicing Ergon's Energy & Specialty Solutions (ESS) segment, comprised primarily of entities engaged in the refining and marketing of specialty oils and the manufacture and marketing of specialty chemicals.
- Lead the month‑end, quarter‑end, and year‑end close processes, ensuring timely, accurate, and consistent financial reporting across all ESS entities.
- Maintain financial books and records including costing, reconciliations, and analysis of accounts.
- Review and record transactions, exercising professional judgment to make accounting estimates.
- Prepare, review, and deliver internal management reports, analyses, budgets, and projections.
- Communicate financial results to management, providing key insights to help them better manage the business.
- Identify opportunities for improvement of accounting processes, controls, and systems to enhance operational efficiency and scalability.
- Support mergers, acquisitions, and other corporate transactions with financial due diligence and integration efforts.
- Serve as a liaison to international ESS accounting and finance teams, promoting consistency of processes, adherence to standards, and use of best practices.
- Ensure strong internal controls are in place and work closely with internal and external auditors during annual audits and quarterly reviews.
- Assist with onboarding and developing accounting staff, fostering a culture of accountability, accuracy, and professional growth.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
- Five years of prior work experience in accounting or finance; 2 years of management, preferred
- Demonstrates management, leadership and problem‑solving skills
- Team player who works well under pressure
- Effective communicator
- Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) and accounting software
- Proven knowledge of accounting regulations, practices, and standards
