  • Must be a current BSO employee classified as a Records/Warrants Technician who has successfully completed their probationary period by the listed closing date.
  • FCIC/NCIC Terminal Certification required for continued employment.
  • Possess and maintain a valid Florida driver's license throughout employment without any restrictions that affect job performance.

Candidates are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the Uniform Crime Reporting Manual and Chapter 941 of the Florida State Statute as it pertains to extraditions. Under administrative direction, the purpose of the position is to perform a variety of administrative activities to support law enforcement personnel and the public regarding warrants/extraditions processing and the receipt, classification, and entry of reports in compliance with Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) and Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) with the Records/Warrants Division of the Broward Sheriffs Office. Duties include entering, querying, retrieving, validating and/or processing data in various database systems.

Incumbents accomplish unit functions through rotating assigned work areas, and participate in cross training to ensure satisfactory performance in all records/warrants functions. Employees in this classification may perform lead work duties by monitoring work performed by entry-level Records/Warrants Technicians. Work is performed under general supervision with latitude for use of independent judgment within established guidelines and procedures. Performs related work as directed.

Performs administrative activities to support law enforcement personnel and the public regarding criminal arrest warrants, protection orders, missing people, stolen vehicles, stolen property, and extraditions processing and the classification of records in compliance with Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) and Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR).

Conducts data inquiries and/or enters updates of data such as criminal histories, warrants, driverfs license records, motor vehicle tags, vehicle registration numbers, stolen vehicles and property, missing/wanted persons, orders of no contact, domestic violence injunctions, or other criminal information.

Validates entries in FCIC/NCIC by checking police reports and clerk dockets, pulling files, and verifying accuracy of the entries; reviews validation printout for any coding errors; insures that all FCIC/NCIC database entries are active and contain accurate information.

Processes original warrants, to include felonies, misdemeanors, traffic capiases, juvenile pick up orders and writs.

Confirms warrants, issues warrant numbers, issues criminal warrants to fugitive squad, and notifies detectives and/or the State Attorneys Office when fugitives have been arrested on warrants.

Places holds and/or detainers on fugitives in custody out of county and out of state.

Responds to law enforcement personnel in the field promptly and accurately in providing records or warrant information on persons in custody.

Processes bonds received from outside jurisdictions on criminal warrants.

Reviews and classifies police reports in accordance with the Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) guidelines established and published by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE).

Verifies arrest information in the JMS Web, the Warrant Tracking Systems, and the Broward County Clerks Office Odyssey system.

Creates and processes tickets requesting Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) corrections from law enforcement.

Notifies law enforcement concerning police reports not received and not meeting the state Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) guidelines.

Receives court orders, verifies such for accuracy and completeness, and complies with court order requests concerning sealing/expunging arrests or correcting data.

Operates Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) and national computer system (FCIC/NCIC) to enter, retrieve, validate, confirm, and update information.

Operates unit teletype system in approving extraditions and placing and/or releasing holds/detainers.

Notifies the State Attorneys Office concerning all new extradition cases; provides notification when subjects waive extradition.

Documents case activity, records extradition decisions, files cases in proper extradition locations, and records documentation received by subjects.

Sends formal detainers to the holding agency; provides detainer letters to the State Attorneys…
