About the Role

Brentwood Behavioral Healthcare is seeking dynamic and talented Mental Health Technicians for varied shifts. The Mental Health Technician assists in coordinating essential program activities such as activity groups and specialty groups, works closely with all other clinical staff (Activity Therapists, Social Workers, Nurses), and conducts various process and specialty groups within the patient program. The role plays an integral part in assuring that the patient program schedule is carried out as planned by the staff team.

The Technician performs duties assisting staff nurses in the psychiatric and physical treatment and care of patients in accordance with established methods and procedures of the hospital. Interacts closely with patients, remaining engaged in the activities and events that occur throughout the treatment day, interacting with patients in a therapeutic manner at all times and assisting other staff in maintaining appropriate boundaries.

Responsibilities
  • Facilitate group activities tailored to the appropriate topic, age, and level of understanding as approved by the Program Coordinator.
  • Ensure patients are consistently monitored in the proper location for the duration of activities.
  • Provide appropriate crisis intervention as necessary by anticipating and responding quickly to escalating behaviors, utilizing de‑escalation techniques to diffuse the situation, and correctly prioritizing safety concerns.
Skills and Competencies
  • Previous experience in a mental health hospital setting is preferred.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, are essential for effective patient interaction.
  • Strong collaborative skills and ability to work effectively with others.
  • Ability to exhibit empathy, respect, and compassion that involve understanding and care for patients.
