This Medical Support Assistant (MSA) position is in the Community Care Service of the G.V. (Sonny) Montgomery VA Medical Center located in Jackson, Mississippi. The work location of the position is off-site in Flowood, Mississippi.

This Medical Support Assistant (MSA) position performs a variety of administrative and technical duties in support of the Community Care Service. The primary duties of the MSA may include but are not limited to:

* Receives and screens phone calls in a courteous and timely manner, determining the nature of requests and providing the information desired using privacy rules and established clinic processes.

* Acts as front-line contact with patients and staff and sets the tone for perception concerning quality of healthcare services at the VA using a high degree of tact and diplomacy.

* Schedules, cancels, and reschedules community care outpatient appointments in accordance with VHA national and local scheduling guidelines.

* Reviews active/pending consults for accuracy and disposition on a daily basis.

* Communicates with patients regarding Community Care and Urgent Care eligibility, consults, referrals, authorizations, appointments, etc. and/or refers the call to the appropriate clinical or administrative personnel.

* Monitoring pre-appointment requirements to assure readiness for patient visit/procedure (e.g. X-ray, lab work)

* Utilizes computer technology to ensure continuity of care through accurate patient information, communication and documentation.

* Verifies and updates patient information/demographics and insurance information as needed.

* Uses automated tracking tools to perform a wide variety of administrative functions such as patient recordkeeping, correspondence, tracking reports, etc.

* Directs patients to proper areas and responds to requests for information from patients, relatives, friends, Veteran service organizations, community providers within HIPAA guidelines.

* Promotes Veteran registration for and utilization of My Healthe Vet (MHV).

* Actively participates in team huddles and team meetings to manage and plan patient care.

Work Schedule:

Typically, Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m.

- 4:30 p.m. Subject to change based on Agency needs.

Pay:
Competitive salary and regular salary increases

Paid Time Off: 37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year (13-26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year)

Parental Leave:
After 12 months of employment, up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave in connection with the birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child.

Child Care Subsidy:
After 60 days of employment, full time employees with a total family income below $144,000 may be eligible for a childcare subsidy up to 25% of total eligible childcare costs for eligible children up to the monthly maximum of $416.66.

Retirement:
Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA

Insurance:
Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement)
