OpenSIPS/SIP Protocol Engineer - Level 3 Support Company Overview
We are a growing technology company specializing in telecommunications and unified communications solutions. Our infrastructure supports critical business communications for customers and resellers across multiple platforms and technologies.
Position SummaryWe are seeking an experienced OpenSIPS/SIP Protocol Engineer to join our Level 3 technical support team. This role combines deep technical expertise in SIP protocols and OpenSIPS with customer-facing support responsibilities. You'll work directly with customers, resellers, and internal development teams to resolve complex telecommunications issues and optimize our VoIP infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities Technical Engineering- Configure, deploy, and maintain OpenSIPS proxy servers and load balancers
- Design and implement SIP call routing logic and traffic management policies
- Troubleshoot complex SIP protocol issues using packet analysis tools
- Optimize call flow performance and resolve carrier integration challenges
- Develop custom OpenSIPS scripts and modules for specific business requirements
- Monitor SIP traffic patterns and implement proactive performance improvements
- Provide Level 3 technical support for complex SIP-related issues
- Collaborate with customers and resellers to diagnose and resolve call quality problems
- Create technical documentation and troubleshooting guides
- Conduct technical training sessions for customers and internal teams
- Escalate and coordinate with vendors when necessary
- Work with Dev Ops teams to provision and scale SIP infrastructure
- Implement monitoring and alerting for SIP services
- Participate in incident response and root cause analysis
- Contribute to disaster recovery and business continuity planning
- Support carrier integration projects and SIP trunk optimization
- 3+ years of hands-on OpenSIPS experience - configuration, scripting, and administration
- Expert-level SIP protocol knowledge - RFC 3261 and related standards
- Network packet analysis - Wireshark, tcpdump, and SIP trace interpretation
- Linux system administration - command line proficiency and system troubleshooting
- Call routing and load balancing - designing scalable SIP proxy architectures
- Telecom protocols - RTP, RTCP, SDP, and related VoIP technologies
- Carrier-grade VoIP platform management
- SIP trunk integration with multiple providers
- High-availability SIP infrastructure design
- Performance tuning and capacity planning for VoIP systems
- Experience with SIP debugging tools and methodologies
- Strong problem-solving and analytical thinking
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Customer service orientation with technical depth
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Documentation and knowledge sharing capabilities
- Experience with other SIP proxy solutions (Kamailio, Free SWITCH)
- Knowledge of telecommunications standards and regulations
- Scripting skills (Python, Bash, or similar)
- Cloud platform experience (AWS, Azure)
- Experience with VoIP monitoring tools (Homer, SIPSAK)
- Understanding of network security principles for VoIP
- Previous Level 3 or escalation support experience
