Position Summary
The main purpose of the Quality Control Inspector is to assure that all fabricated materials are correctly fabricated per applicable codes, project specifications, and approved shop drawings. The Inspector also ensures that welded members meet acceptance criteria as per the American Welding Society.
DescriptionRoles include verification of weld performance, inspection of completed welds, ensuring compliance with procedures, and interfacing with shop personnel.
Essential Functions- Verify weld performance criteria and determine acceptance, rejection, and non‑conformance issuance.
- Verify member length, hole location (LOC), diameter (DIA), sub‑assemblies, component (B.), CPES, bevels, camber, and preheating.
- Verify main member piece marking, sequence, paint, profile, proper weld joint, and fit‑up to prevent missed or duplicated members.
- Inspect completed welds; verify weld size and perform non‑destructive testing to determine soundness and strength.
- Ensure compliance with Steel Service QC Inspector Responsibilities “Inspection and Testing – Procedure No. 13” per A.I.S.C. and A.W.S. D1.1.
- Correct improperly fit sub‑assemblies and unacceptable welds to avoid field repairs.
- Address painted material corrections to prevent coating failures.
- Interact with fitters, welders, painters, shop foreman, and plant superintendent.
- Identify and solve production problems such as incomplete shop drawings, dimensional errors, incorrect hole dimensions or diameters, incorrect weld joint fit‑up, missing weld information or symbols, and missing dimensions on shop drawings.
- Calibrate and issue inspection equipment to personnel.

- Education:
High School Graduate or GED required; associate degree preferred (field of study: welding). - Experience:
1+ years in welding inspection or welding shop operations. - Computer skills: basic proficiency.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
