Position: Carpenter Journeyman - Various Locations

Carpenter Journeyman - Various Locations

A Carpenter Journeyman constructs, erects, installs, and repairs structures and fixtures of wood, plywood, and patent-type form systems using hand tools and power tools within tolerances that conform to drawings and specifications, as well as directing and training carpenter helpers to do the same.

Overview of Primary Duties:
  • Builds wooded structures, such as stairs, concrete forms, scaffolds, tunnel and sewer supports, and temporary frame shelters, according to blueprints, or oral instructions, and lays out and installs partitions and cabinet work.
  • Measures boards, timbers, or plywood using a square, measuring tape, and ruler and marks cutting lines on materials using a pencil and scriber.
  • Shapes materials to required sizes using saws, chisels, and planes.
  • Operates electric and pneumatic tools.
  • Selects, loads, and hauls job material to the work site.
  • Demonstrates Yates Core Values and Principles.
  • Follows Yates Code of Conduct.
  • Safety Responsibilities and Expectations:
    • Responsible for refusing unsafe work and for carrying out all work by the established Yates Safety Procedures and Work Practices.
    • Reports all incidents, near hits, and hazards to management.
    • Required to wear and maintain personal PPE.
    • Advise fellow employees of hazardous situations.
    • Participates in workplace inspections.
    • Complies with statutory requirements, including duty of care.
    • Participates in required and assigned training.
    • Provides suggestions to improve Safety.
    • Present a mature approach to working safely.
    • Attends prestart and Safety meetings and contributes.
  • Other related duties as needed and assigned by Field Supervision.
  • Employees are expected to complete any tasks they are assigned.
Qualifications:

Level III:

  • Four (4) + years of heavy industrial‑related carpenter experience.

Level II:

  • Four (4) + years of heavy industrial‑related carpenter experience.
  • NCCER “Performance” Carpenter journeyman verification.
  • Other verified experiences or certifications with carpenter experience.

Level I:

  • Four (4) + years of heavy industrial‑related carpenter experience.
Requirements:
  • Must have the ability to read and interpret instructions and documentation.
  • Personal hand tools required for craft as established on the Yates Industrial Minimum Tool List.
  • Successful completion of required Safety training to include, but not limited to, Confined Space, LOTO, and Working at Heights.

  • Ability to hear bells, whistles, and alarms.
  • Required to wear safety‑approved body harnesses when working at 4’ or above.
  • Required to adhere to large amounts of standing, walking, bending, squatting, climbing, and lifting.
  • Ability to talk and hear to communicate.
  • Will use arms and hands to signal, grab, hold, turn, push, and pull objects, materials, controls, and tools.
  • Must be able to lift, carry, and move heavy objects up to 25 lbs.
  • Will use vision abilities to focus, see short and long distances, colors, depth perception, and peripheral vision.
