Electrician

Overview

This position is responsible for installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems and equipment across campus facilities. It involves skilled electrical maintenance and repair work on utility systems, lighting systems and street, sidewalk and parking lot lights. Other duties include inspecting, recording, and maintaining costs for work performed, and assisting with related departments and events as needed.

• Install, maintain, replace and repair electrical systems and equipment across campus facilities.
• Perform skilled electrical maintenance and repair work involving utility systems, lighting systems and street, sidewalk and parking lot lights.
• Repair and replace defective or worn electrical parts, motors, generators, light fixtures, pumps, controllers, switches, plugs, lighting ballast, and related equipment as needed.
• Inspect electrical equipment and lighting; test, locate and repair damaged electrical circuitry.
• Maintain records of work performed, materials used, and associated costs.
• Repair and install underground electrical conduit systems.
• Perform related duties as assigned.
• Assist other departments as needed, such as help with HVAC systems installation and other necessary equipment.
• Assist with other PA systems, set up and monitoring for university events as needed.

• Knowledge of: Methods, practices, equipment and tools used in the repair of electrical and mechanical devices.
• Knowledge of the principles and practices of repair of streetlights.
• Knowledge of the principles and procedures of record keeping.
• Knowledge of basic arithmetic.
• Knowledge of safe work practices.

• Ability to: Repair and replace electrical systems and equipment.
• Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, sketches and drawings.
• Maintain work records.
• Work independently in the absence of supervision.
• Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
• Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.

• Any combination equivalent to graduation from high school supplemented by specialized training in electrical and/or electronic technology and four years of journey level experience in the installation, repair, replacement, and maintenance of electrical and electronic equipment, systems and components.
• Must have strong organizational and time management skills and excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Must be able to utilize Microsoft Office.
• Work requires a valid MS driver’s license.
