Light Operator

Overview

Equipment Operator I will transport crew, equipment, and material by machinery, truck, or bus to and from the site on public or private roads. Inspect, operate, and maintain equipment. Work and travel within assigned area.

• Operate/maneuver equipment on the construction site safely and effectively.
• Drive a 12-yard dump truck to haul equipment and hook up and drive tractor/trailer and truck/trailer rigs to haul equipment and materials.
• Operate light equipment as needed, including but not limited to CDL Site Bus Driver, Semi Truck Driver, Skid Steer, Warehouse Forklifts, Oiler, Frontend Loader, Roller Steel Wheel, Farm Tractor, Water Truck, Backhoe/Trackhoe, Dozer, Boom Truck, Rough Terrain Forklift, Overhead Crane, and most other dirt equipment.
• Perform daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections of vehicles to ensure safe operation.
• Check daily to ensure equipment functions properly and safely.
• Coordinate with crew members in response to hand and/or audio signals.
• Refuel equipment as required and check oil and fluid levels.
• Accurately record mileage and maintain records of dispensed fuel and fuel accounting documentation.
• Maintain accurate accounting of truck inventory.

• Adhere to safety responsibilities and expectations, including refusing unsafe work and following established safety procedures and work practices.
• Report incidents, near-misses, and hazards to management; wear and maintain personal PPE; participate in workplace inspections; comply with statutory requirements and required training; provide safety improvement suggestions; and attend prestart and safety meetings.
• Perform other related duties as needed and assigned by Field Supervision.

• Must be 25 years or older with a clean MVR background check.
• Valid CDL license requirement is dictated by the needs of the site.
• Clean, maintain, and perform basic repairs to equipment.
• Ensure equipment is safely and securely stored when not in use.
• Two (2) or more years of heavy industrial-related light operator experience.
• Successful completion of a DOT Physical.

• Operate by way of radio communications or hand signals, if applicable.
• Maintain safe operations as per Yates and manufacturers procedures/guidelines within the equipment’s capabilities.
• Wear, inspect, and care for required personal protective equipment.
• Read and follow operator procedures; read and interpret instructions; document, plan, and perform work activities independently.
• Degree of job responsibilities may vary based on months of experience.
• Successful completion of required Safety training including, but not limited to, Confined Space, LOTO, and Working at Heights.
