Route Manager - Position Overview

The Route Manager oversees teams responsible for snow removal and ice control operations, ensuring safe, efficient, and compliant execution of all tasks before, during, and after snow events. This role requires strong leadership, real-time decision-making, and the ability to manage people, equipment, and customer needs in demanding winter conditions.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Customer Communication - Handle customer service calls confidently, accurately, and professionally.
• Crew Leadership - Communicate expectations to heavy equipment operators, salt drivers, seasonal drivers, and sidewalk crews.
• Policy Compliance - Ensure full adherence to procedures for:
  • Pre-season preparation
  • Pre-event readiness
  • Active snow event operations
  • Post-event follow-up
• Snow & Ice Operations - Oversee sidewalk and parking lot clearing, including chemical application.
• Airfield Operations - Supervise heavy equipment operators clearing snow around terminals and other airfield areas.
• Condition Reporting - Assess and report:
  • Bulk and liquid material usage
  • Tarmac snow/ice conditions
  • Equipment status
• Safe Navigation - Drive safely in low-visibility, low-traction airfield environments.
• Time & Performance Management - Validate timecards and evaluate employee performance.
• Personnel Management - Address performance issues and manage individuals and teams effectively.
• Task Prioritization - Receive multiple tasks, prioritize critical items, and delegate appropriately.

Required Skills & Experience

• Education - High School Diploma or GED.
• Licensing - Valid driver's license; CDL preferred (Class B support available)
• Airport Clearance - Must pass City of New York Department of Aviation background check and driving test.
• Work Conditions - Long hours, weekends, holidays; on-call daily from Nov 1-Apr 30.
• Physical Requirements - Ability to lift 50+ lbs and perform physically demanding tasks (walking, kneeling, climbing, etc.).
