Job Summary

The Museum Attendant provides visitor services and operational support for the Foley Museums & Heritage Department under the direct supervision of the Museums Manager. This position primarily works Saturdays at the Foley Railroad Museum and assists with guest services, gift shop operations, and the loading of passengers onto the event train. The employee may also be called upon to work weekday fill-in shifts at either the Foley Railroad Museum or Holmes Medical Museum and occasionally assist with preparing the event trains for weekly operation.

Functions
  • Greets visitors and provides information about museum exhibits, programs, operating hours, and local attractions.
  • Answers visitor questions and helps maintain a welcoming and professional environment.
  • Assists passengers with boarding and exiting the event train and ensures riders follow established safety procedures.
  • Serves as the event train loader by managing the boarding line, monitoring passenger capacity, and communicating with the train driver during operation.
  • Operates the gift shop’s point-of-sale system and barcode scanner.
  • Processes cash and credit card transactions, provides receipts, and maintains accurate transaction records.
  • Stocks, organizes, scans, and displays gift shop merchandise.
  • Regularly monitors the outdoor donation box and reports any security, damage, or maintenance concerns.
  • Helps maintain clean, orderly, and safe public areas at museum facilities.
  • Occasionally assists with preparing the event trains for weekly operation, including washing and cleaning the trains and filling their fuel tanks in accordance with established safety procedures.
  • Opens and closes museum facilities as assigned.
  • Records visitor attendance and assists with museum programs and special events as needed.
  • Reports maintenance issues, safety hazards, equipment problems, and unusual incidents to the Museums Manager.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Education & Experience

Requires a High School Diploma or its equivalent and one (1) year of experience in a job related field, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

Successful applicants must have a valid driver's license and pass a criminal background check (including driving record) and a pre-employment physical.
