Pre-Clinical/Clinical Faculty - Pediatric Dentistry (Evergreen Position)
Primary Purpose and
Essential Functions:
The Department of Pediatric Dentistry at the University of the Pacific, Arthur
A. Dugoni School of Dentistry invites applicants to apply for a part‑time, teacher‑clinician position (0.5 to 2 days per week, 40 weeks per year). The role includes teaching pediatric dentistry at the pre‑doctoral level, contributing to the dental auxiliary utilization (DAU) program, and participating in community outreach activities.

Additional responsibilities will be assigned by the Department Chair in collaboration with the faculty member. Workload is flexible, and emphasis is placed on teaching, with encouragement of scholarship and service. Some travel to San Francisco may be required.
Minimum QualificationsCurrent Knowledge of:
- Current Edition of AAPD Pediatric Dentistry Reference
- Manual dental school educational processes
- Restorative and preventive information and technique
Education:
- DDS/DMD or international equivalent; preference for degree earned from an ADA‑accredited school
- Certificate or Master’s degree indicating successful completion of an ADA‑accredited specialty training program in pediatric dentistry (required)
- Valid CPR certification
- Board certification by the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry (desirable but not required)
- Effective communication with a diverse population of patients, students, staff, faculty, and administration
- Independent work with minimal supervision
- Team collaboration with administrators, faculty, staff, and students
- Confidentiality of information
- Professional judgment in all situations
- Humanistic educational model with sincere desire to learn from and teach students
- Desire for personal growth and development as an educator
- Interest in organized dentistry, especially pediatric dentistry
- Interest in community outreach activities
- Desire to participate in professional education beyond the school at local, state, regional, national, and international levels
Faculty must possess sufficient motor function for dental procedures, including palpation, percussion, auscultation, laboratory tests, preparations, and diagnostic procedures. Must perform basic life support including CPR, transfer and position patients with disabilities, restrain children lacking motor control, and operate dental handpieces and instruments. Tasks involve gross and fine muscular coordination, equilibrium, and sensory use.
Hiring RangeUSD 65 per hour, adjusted for scope, qualifications, internal equity, and market considerations.
