Position: Environmental Geologist / Environmental Scientist

About The Role

SLR International Corporation is seeking a motivated Environmental Geologist or Environmental Scientist to join our Northern California team. This position supports our Land Quality and Remediation technical discipline and will involve a wide range of responsibilities related to contaminated site investigation, assessment, and remediation.

We are looking for candidates with consulting or industry experience, ideally with familiarity with California environmental regulations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate and oversee subcontractors performing utility locating, drilling, excavation, waste disposal, and related field operations.
  • Lead field investigations, including site reconnaissance, Phase II Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs), mapping, and multimedia environmental sampling.
  • Oversee drilling, sediment characterization, remediation, and other field activities. Collect lithologic, environmental and hydrogeologic data.
  • Coordinating monitoring and sampling events, which would include laboratory coordination, bottles, Chains-of-Custody, sample shipment and procurement (or rental) of all necessary equipment (e.g. instruments) to complete monitoring events.
  • Perform Construction Quality Assurance (CQA) oversight during installation or construction of vapor intrusion mitigation systems, landfills, or similar infrastructure.
  • Conduct environmental sampling across multiple media (soil, groundwater, surface water, sediment, soil gas, indoor air) in accordance with regulatory and QA/QC requirements.
  • Analyze environmental data, compare results to local, state, and federal standards.
  • Develop maps, figures, and visualizations to support data interpretation and project reporting.
  • Prepare high‑quality technical deliverables, including reports, work plans, proposals, letters, and memoranda.
  • Support project scope development, cost estimating, scheduling, and execution.
  • Participate in meetings with clients, regulatory agencies, and other project stakeholders.
  • Effectively communicate with Project Managers, subcontractors, regulatory agents, tenants, and clients during field activities.
  • Ensure work complies with project schedules, codes, regulations, and industry standards.
  • Contribute to the preparation of project proposals and bid documents including development of scope and costs.
  • Travel to project sites within Northern California is required. Occasional domestic travel may occur depending on client needs.
  • Ensure compliance with Health & Safety plans and maintain safety documentation.
  • Perform other duties as requested.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in geology, environmental science, or a closely related field. (Master’s degree is a plus).
  • Minimum 3 years of experience conducting environmental characterization and remediation.
  • Proficiency in soil classification and borehole logging.
  • Working knowledge of California regulatory requirements, including environmental remediation and vapor intrusion guidance.
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform fieldwork.
  • Current 40‑hr OSHA HAZWOPER certification and annual refreshers.
  • Experience in technical writing and development of technical documents.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and contribute effectively to diverse teams.
  • Strong technical, analytical, and problem‑solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Teams, and SharePoint.
  • Willingness to work occasional overtime or weekends based on project needs.
  • Geologist‑in‑Training (GIT) certification (preferred).
