PositionElectrical Engineer, Building Engineering Services, to join HDR in Walnut Creek or Folsom, CA. This role supports electrical design of facilities across markets including Technology, Corporate/Commercial, Education, Healthcare, Water/Wastewater, Municipal, Industrial, Power and Federal. The engineer will coordinate with a multidisciplinary design team across the project life cycle—from planning through construction documents and construction administration—and will develop construction drawings, specifications, and supporting engineering calculations, as well as review shop drawings during construction.
Strong self-motivation, collaboration, and leadership are expected to deliver high-quality, technically sound electrical designs.
- Perform, plan, direct and monitor the electrical design team on small to mid-sized institutional/industrial projects through schematic design, development, and contract document phases.
- Review electrical documents for areas of conflict with other disciplines.
- Write/edit electrical specifications and select equipment, electrical systems and devices.
- Assist with designs for upgrades and expansions of medium voltage and low voltage distribution, and green-field design.
- Prepare electrical design (plans and specifications) per NFPA 70, including systems such as switch gear, pumping plants, lighting, HVAC, fire protection detection and suppression panels, and other loads.
- Engineer physical design (above and below grade) for conduit and cable routing in sufficient detail to construct.
- Produce drawings, markups, and checks for electrical equipment/conduit arrangements, schematics and wiring diagrams; specify conduit and cable and prepare supporting calculations.
- Perform site surveys and verification of installation.
- Perform power system studies, including arc flash assessment.
- Perform engineering calculations, develop design options, and assist in the preparation of engineering procedures and specifications.
- Perform data processing and statistical analysis, and develop data plots and graphs.
- Establish meetings and participate in reviews with governing agencies for code compliance.
- Coordinate workload to complete the documentation on schedule.
- Conduct work sessions at project sites with the Project Manager and other disciplines.
- Coordinate with affected disciplines on addenda, RFIs, CPRs and change orders, and integrate changes into project documents.
- Provide construction contract administration as needed.
- Conduct QA/QC on the work of other Electrical Engineers, Electrical Coordinators or Technicians.
- Perform other duties as needed.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in electrical design of buildings (lighting, power, systems).
- Previous experience with an architectural/engineering or engineering consulting firm is desired.
- Experience or interest in sustainable design/LEED is desired but not required.
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Architectural Engineering with an Electrical emphasis.
- Previous experience in electrical design of buildings (lighting/power/systems).
- Professional Engineer (PE or P.Eng) license or equivalent recognized by the licensing board for the location of the position offered.
- Strong computer skills using AutoCAD, Microsoft Office, Revit, SKM, AGI and Easy Power.
