Responsibilities
- Take responsibility for operations of production section including staff development, profitability, morale, quality control and marketing support
- Function as Project Manager and take responsibility for production on projects in addition to management responsibilities
- Take administrative responsibility for section staff and technical service functions, and lead and coordinate services with other sections
- Be involved in marketing planning, proposals and interviews
- Select, train, develop and manage technical personnel
- Manage and develop multidiscipline teams
- Lead, mentor, support, and coordinate the civil design group
- Manage group workload and adjust staff assignments as needed to deliver quality products
- Provide oversight and mentorship on projects and support junior staff
- Plan, organize, control and evaluate work through proactive project management system
- Review tasks undertaken by others in the civil design group so each design receives a complete check of assumptions, calculations, criteria, applicable codes, and compliance with design standards
- Implement, monitor and support company policy
- Lead and support expansion of HDR’s civil engineering services, including client and strategic project development
- Help on pursuits; prepare and/or review scopes and fees related to civil work
- Lead and support hiring initiatives
- Manage, lead, assist with, or provide oversight for preparation of contract documents including drawings, specifications, design documentation, criteria, and cost estimates
- Perform engineering assignments that may require critical thinking and creativity to address unique elements with limited or no specific code based guidance
- Coordinate civil designs with multi-disciplinary teams
- Perform other duties as needed
- Professional registration or license
- Demonstrable experience with leading civil design projects, including analysis, reporting, and drawing production
- Field experience related to civil construction
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products and AutoCAD/Civil 3D software
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
- A minimum of 10 years experience
- Professional registration, license or certification may be required based on role
- Strong communication and listening skills
- Ability to handle multiple assignments
- Good leadership and organizational skills
