Civil Design Section Lead

Responsibilities

• Take responsibility for operations of production section including staff development, profitability, morale, quality control and marketing support
• Function as Project Manager and take responsibility for production on projects in addition to management responsibilities
• Take administrative responsibility for section staff and technical service functions, and lead and coordinate services with other sections
• Be involved in marketing planning, proposals and interviews
• Select, train, develop and manage technical personnel
• Manage and develop multidiscipline teams
• Lead, mentor, support, and coordinate the civil design group
• Manage group workload and adjust staff assignments as needed to deliver quality products
• Provide oversight and mentorship on projects and support junior staff
• Plan, organize, control and evaluate work through proactive project management system
• Review tasks undertaken by others in the civil design group so each design receives a complete check of assumptions, calculations, criteria, applicable codes, and compliance with design standards
• Implement, monitor and support company policy
• Lead and support expansion of HDR’s civil engineering services, including client and strategic project development
• Help on pursuits; prepare and/or review scopes and fees related to civil work
• Lead and support hiring initiatives
• Manage, lead, assist with, or provide oversight for preparation of contract documents including drawings, specifications, design documentation, criteria, and cost estimates
• Perform engineering assignments that may require critical thinking and creativity to address unique elements with limited or no specific code based guidance
• Coordinate civil designs with multi-disciplinary teams
• Perform other duties as needed

• Professional registration or license
• Demonstrable experience with leading civil design projects, including analysis, reporting, and drawing production
• Field experience related to civil construction
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products and AutoCAD/Civil 3D software

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
• A minimum of 10 years experience
• Professional registration, license or certification may be required based on role
• Strong communication and listening skills
• Ability to handle multiple assignments
• Good leadership and organizational skills
