Senior Civil Engineer – Building Engineering Services

HDR is looking for a Senior Civil Engineer to join our Building Engineering Services (BES) team in the Folsom or Walnut Creek, CA office.

• Act as Civil Engineer of Record (EOR) and prepare specifications and civil engineering plans for construction.
• Lead small project teams of civil engineers and designers, providing technical expertise and project oversight.
• Design and lead production for general civil engineering design on a wide variety of projects, including site layouts, horizontal and vertical control, grading and drainage, paving, site utilities, and associated civil engineering activities.
• Prepare stormwater management designs, calculations, and reports to meet local government agency standards.
• Oversee EIT and civil coordinator tasks such as Civil 3D production, engineering, and quantity calculations.
• Perform quality‑control design reviews on multidisciplinary projects from a civil perspective.
• Execute complex assignments exercising judgment in evaluation, selection, and modification of standard engineering techniques and procedures.
• Serve as a technical expert with recognized authority to resolve problems of greater scope and complexity.
• Plan and develop projects or design activities that significantly impact major company programs as needed.
• Plan, organize, and supervise the work of a medium to large staff of professionals and technicians as needed.
• Occasionally serve as a Project Manager on small to mid‑size projects as needed.
• Perform other duties as needed.

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering.
• California Civil Professional Engineer (PE) license.
• Experience mentoring and training Civil EITs and civil designers.
• Experience with Auto Desk Civil 3D.
• Experience in Project Engineering and Project Civil Lead roles.
• Experience with Microsoft Office, Water
  
  CAD, Storm
  
  CAD, and other civil engineering software. Bluebeam is also commonly used.
• Willingness to work with and lead project teams.
• Supervisory experience.
• In‑person office culture.

• Minimum of 10 years of design experience managing various civil/site design projects.
• Professional engineering license recognized by the licensing board for the location of the position offered (e.g., PE or P.Eng).
• Experience in Project Engineering and Project Management.
