Maximize plant production and optimization of KPI's, while guaranteeing all product is manufactured within environmental and quality specifications. Job entails following up, implementing, and improving standards while promoting a safe and engaging workplace. Process Engineer in the plant will be responsible for the Process Engineering side of the business/operations, that includes more analysis, study, process troubleshooting and process optimization.
Job Responsibilities- Work following the Mission, Vision and Values of CEMEX, lead by example.
- Initiate, develop and implement plant improvement projects, including eliminating equipment restrictions, installing projects/upgrades to improve KPI performance, and commissioning equipment.
- Provide expertise and technical knowledge to plant personnel, including identifying training requirements and executing training programs, identifying gaps in performance versus standards, creating actions, and ensuring compliance with instructions, procedures, and standards.
- Conduct root cause analysis and troubleshooting.
- Ensure performance and efficiency of equipment at or above rated operational capacities, minimize operational cost: perform mass and heat balances, hydraulic calculations for industrial fans, ductwork and gas handling, equipment diagnostics, validate plant instrumentation by routine testing, PID optimization, and specific heat and power consumption optimization.
- Address alternative fuel and fuel performance strategies, follow up and improve performance of grinding media and refractory performance, and optimize environmental reagents while complying with environmental limits.
- Take decisions and hold accountability to reach objectives, with daily performance follow‑up.
- Maintain process flow charts and equipment information; serve as PI/Seeq Champions/Power Users; continue action follow‑up on all previously described activities.
- Adhere to and enforce all CEMEX, MSHA, O.S.H.A., and other safety rules and regulations; wear proper safety equipment while on plant grounds (clothing, hardhat, safety glasses, ear protection, safety shoes, gloves, etc.).
- Ensure all plant personnel work in a safe environment, guarantee required tools are available, and conduct risk assessments with follow‑up on safety hazard identifications.
- Ensure personnel have the necessary skills and training for safe and productive work; provide training to maintain compliance.
- Verify that assigned areas meet safety standards, identify and correct deviations.
- Participate in safety committees, risk assessments, training, standard work, development of safety programs, and monitor plant operations to ensure safe job performance.
- Participate in near‑miss and accident investigations.
- Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry, Engineering or related major.
- 5 years progressive experience within the heavy industrial manufacturing industry.
- Previous cement process experience is a plus.
- Experience with continuous process, bulk‑material handling operations is beneficial.
- Basic understanding of raw geologic materials (e.g., limestone, clay, sand, iron ore), their chemical composition, and familiarity with crushing, grinding, blending, kiln processing, cooling, and conveyance (belts, stackers, pneumatics).
- Availability at all times to work and resolve issues of the assigned area.
- Cement experience and knowledge in quality, operation and maintenance.
