Job Description
American Traveler is seeking a CA-licensed RN for a 13-week hybrid GI and Interventional Radiology position requiring experience with procedural sedation and multiple certifications.
Responsibilities
• Work in a hybrid GI-IR unit within an acute care hospital setting
• Assignment is 13 weeks in length with shifts Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm
• Covers both GI and IR cases—GI procedures in the afternoon and IR/procedural sedation in the morning
• Two procedural suites operated by a daily team of three, with duties rotating between IR and GI
• GI cases primarily include EGDs, colonoscopies, and ERCPs, mostly outpatient and basic procedures with occasional advanced interventions
• IR procedures include dialysis catheters, paracentesis, thoracentesis, and liver biopsies—skilled vascular procedures are not required
• Call required for GI coverage Monday to Friday 4:00 pm–8:00 am and weekends 7:00 am–8:00 am
• Use of Cerner EMR system
• Orientation includes up to five days to become familiar with the area and charting system
• Possible floating to a sister hospital may be required during assignment
• RNs will primarily circulate for GI cases and provide procedural sedation in IR
• GI tech duties may be assigned if qualified; no preop or recovery duties are required
• Weekend call may require willingness to clean scopes if trained
• Charge nurse coordinates both units and does not take direct patient assignments
• Instrument techs clean scopes on weekdays; IR techs handle scrubbing for IR procedures
• One holiday may be assigned during the contract, if applicable
• Scrub attire is provided by the facility
• Team-oriented, small department with supportive medical staff
• Returning employees who have worked for Common Spirit, CHI, or Dignity within the past year are not eligible
• First time travelers will be considered for this position
Requirements
• Active CA RN license required—pending licenses not accepted
• Minimum one year of recent experience in IR, ICU, or ER; GI tech experience highly preferred
• Current AHA BLS, ACLS, PALS, and NIHSS certifications required at time of consideration
• Procedural sedation certification required (may be obtained during orientation)
• Must pass the Dysrhythmia (DYS) exam before acceptance—two attempts allowed
• Ability to manage airways during procedural sedation
• Two professional references required: one from a supervisor within the last 12 months, another supervisor or peer within the last three years
