What you will do
Johnson Controls Inc. is looking for forward‑thinking HVAC Mechanics to support the fast‑growing HVAC business in North America. As a mechanic you will perform maintenance, repair and replacement services on commercial heating and cooling systems, work with light or heavy commercial equipment, partner with journeymen on larger systems, and provide service and support to customers.
Responsibilities- Perform commercial HVACR service, including light commercial/industrial mechanical equipment, rooftop units, pumps, fans, towers, boilers, chillers, compressors and plumbing.
- Use vibration equipment to troubleshoot drive lines and mechanical shaft alignment (dial indicators).
- Partner with journeymen to repair centrifugal, steam turbines and open‑drive screw chillers.
- Provide customers with service quotes, recommendations, and solutions for commissioning and aftermarket support.
- Act as a trusted advisor to customers, ensuring efficient facility operation and identifying upselling opportunities.
- Travel up to 20% to support branch customers for troubleshooting, installation and repair.
- Participate in factory certification through the Service Technical Academy (STA) and JCI’s Service Plus Rewards program.
- Prioritize safety in all tasks and maintain up‑to‑date universal EPA refrigerant license, state/local licensing, and a valid driver’s license.
- Member or willing to join the United Association of Journeymen and Apprentices of the Plumbing and Pipe Fitting Industry of the United States and Canada, AFL‑CIO.
- Minimum of 3 years of commercial or industrial HVAC troubleshooting experience, including rooftop units, pumps, fans, towers, boilers, chillers, compressors and plumbing.
- Experience with mechanical shaft alignment, vibration analysis, and use of diagnostic tools.
- Ability to pass a knowledge examination to assess proficiencies.
- Strong customer communication skills – capable of writing and explaining problem, cause, and corrective actions.
- Self‑starter with a passion for learning and applying new skills on the job.
- Hourly rate of $67.37, determined by the CBA rate sheet.
