Position Summary:

Moraine Park Technical College is establishing a Professional Tutor candidate pool for the  academic year. Professional Tutors enhance the learning of MPTC students by informally assessing student knowledge, identifying areas needing improvement, providing supplemental instruction, clarifying assignments and course content, modeling and supporting appropriate study strategies, and guiding students toward independence and self-direction in their course work. Professional Tutors provide academic support to students in various disciplines not offered by the Student Success Center such as, Accounting, Architecture, Electricity, Graphic Design, Information Technology, Mathematics, Medical Coding, Nursing, Pharmacology, Radiography, and Respiratory Therapy.

This role typically works approximately 5-10 hours per week based on the needs of students.

Successful candidates will have a Bachelor's degree in a related subject area. Candidates must reside within the Moraine Park Technical College service districts with flexibility to work on-campus or virtually, with flexible work hours based on student needs.

Responsibilities:

  • Complete tutor training requirements and apply acquired skills.
  • Establish and maintain ongoing contact with assigned students and arrange regular tutor sessions, including small group and one-on-one sessions.
  • Consult with course instructors as needed.
  • Help students to break down and simplify complex information taught in class.
  • Integrate effective study and learning strategies to promote independent learning.
  • Coach students in developing a systemic approach to studying that will serve them in many courses.
  • Maintain current and accurate records of tutoring activities and submit required communication and documentation to Tutoring Services Specialist in a timely manner.
  • Communicate with Tutoring Services Specialist to discuss additional needs or concerns of the students.
  • Maintain student confidentiality according to FERPA guidelines.

Experience & Qualifications(in addition to those listed in the summary above):

  • Bachelor’s Degree in related subject area required.
  • Experience as a tutor or equivalent work experience in related subject area preferred.
  • Knowledge of software applications, including Microsoft Office 365 (Office Suite, Teams, SharePoint, etc.).
  • Ability to work with students from diverse backgrounds as well as under-prepared and special needs students.
  • Organizational skills and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to help with study skills, test-taking strategies, note-taking skills, and time-management.
  • Ability to quickly develop and maintain a positive rapport with students, faculty and staff.
  • Understand student strategies to support auditory, visual, and kinesthetic learning styles.
  • Ability to communicate effectively through written and verbal communication.
  • Ability to maintain records of student participation and outcomes for client reporting in WTCS grants.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and possess sensitivity to the needs of students.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in related subject area
  • Knowledge of the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).

Other Position Requirements:

  • Ability to travel to MPTC Campus locations.

Hiring Range: $22.00 per hour

Starting: Fall 2026 - Spring 2027

Hours: 5-10 hours per week (based on the needs of students)
