Position Overview
As a Senior CFD Engineer on the Design Analysis team you will be responsible for conducting Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulations to support the design and development of conventional marine internal combustion engines, drive systems, electrified propulsion and vessels.
- Conduct detailed/comprehensive simulations using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) software Siemens Simcenter STAR-CCM+ to model fluid flow behavior and heat transfer mechanisms.
- Perform conjugate heat transfer (CHT) analysis of internal engines, marine drives, and transmission components to evaluate temperature distributions, cooling performance, and thermal risks. Identify thermal drivers and provide clear, data-driven design recommendations to improve durability, efficiency, cooling distribution, and component life.
- Conduct multiphase hydrodynamic simulations for propellers, drives, and boat systems using multiphase CFD techniques (VOF, Eulerian-Lagrangian) and moving/overset mesh to model gas–liquid–solid interactions.
- Work closely with design and development engineers to provide design input and perform trade-off studies that will improve the product, including evaluating different design options and assessing their impact on performance, weight, cost, and recommending the best solutions.
- Work closely with test engineers to specify the necessary testing and instrumentation required to validate analysis results, including designing test plans, selecting appropriate sensors, and ensuring accurate data collection.
- Document analysis findings and share results with stakeholders, engineering partners, and leaders. Prepare detailed reports, present findings in meetings, and provide actionable recommendations based on analysis results.
- Identify potential areas for new method development and collaborate with experts to test and deploy, staying up to date with the latest advancements in analysis techniques and implementing these methods in practical applications.
- Continuously seek opportunities for improving analysis processes, tools, and methodologies, including participating in training, attending industry conferences, and collaborating with peers to share knowledge and best practices. Assess software capabilities, identify gaps, and recommend upgrades or new tools.
- Coordinate work packages between onsite and offshore teams, manage project timelines, ensure clear communication between teams, and maintain high standards of quality and consistency in deliverables.
Diversity of thought and experiences is fundamental when imagining the unimaginable. Certain skillsets/experiences are necessary; however, others can be developed along the way.
