Job Description & How to Apply Below

Overview

This is an exceptional opportunity for a driven structural engineer ready to step into a full design ownership role within a growing, employee-owned multi-discipline AE firm. The organization has built a reputation for operational excellence across retail, food facility, commercial, and specialty structures — offering a career environment where technical contributions translate directly into leadership opportunity and meaningful compensation upside. The incoming Structural Engineer will assume immediate responsibility for design delivery in a high-volume, fast-turnaround commercial practice, working alongside an experienced project team with direct access to decision-making from day one.

For engineers who find fulfillment in ownership culture, defined career progression, and compensation structures that reward performance — not tenure — this role represents a rare alignment of role fit, firm stability, and financial trajectory. The position is based on-site at the firm's primary office and requires full in-person commitment.

Responsibilities
  • Lead structural design on commercial building projects including retail, food facility, industrial, and specialty structures.
  • Produce complete construction document packages with minimal oversight across fast-turnaround project cycles.
  • Work directly with architects, contractors, and project teams to deliver integrated design solutions.
  • Execute structural analysis using industry-standard software and apply code-compliant engineering judgment.
  • Make independent design decisions on gravity and lateral load systems appropriate to commercial building types.
  • Manage multiple concurrent project assignments, prioritizing workload to meet tight delivery schedules.
  • Collaborate across engineering disciplines within a multi-discipline AE environment.
  • Contribute to the development and mentorship of junior engineering staff as the team expands.
  • Identify and resolve design challenges proactively, minimizing downstream coordination issues.
  • Support continuous improvement of production workflows, standards, and documentation quality.
Qualifications

Required

  • Six or more years of structural engineering experience on commercial building projects, including retail, food facility, industrial, or specialty structures.
  • Proficiency in Revit as a primary production tool; ability to contribute to a fully in-office, production-focused design environment with minimal onboarding time.
  • Demonstrated ability to work directly with architects, contractors, and clients, making real design contributions rather than administrative support.
  • PE license or actively on the path to licensure; commercially oriented with the ability to own design decisions independently.
  • Bachelor's degree in structural engineering, civil engineering, or a related engineering field.
  • Experience with vertical building structures; candidates with civil, highway, or bridge-focused backgrounds will not be considered.

Preferred

  • Proficiency in RISA-3D, RISA Floor, and RISA Foundation as primary structural analysis tools.
  • Experience in retail tenant build-outs or fast-turnaround prototype design, including chain restaurants, convenience stores, and commercial shells.
  • Exposure to specialty structures including precast concrete, cold-formed steel, or structural glass engineering.
  • Background in a multi-discipline architecture and engineering firm environment with experience navigating integrated project delivery.
Competencies
  • Technical self-sufficiency — contributes immediately with minimal training
  • Production orientation with high output across accelerated design cycles
  • Proactive problem solver with strong analytical follow-through
  • Outstanding communicator, comfortable with direct client and team interaction
  • Growth mindset anchored in ownership culture and long-term career development
  • Collaborative team contributor with the ability to make courageous design decisions
  • High personal energy and the capacity to manage multiple priorities simultaneously
