Position OverviewAs a Base Engine Design Technical Specialist/Architect, you will serve as a senior technical authority within the Base Engine Design group. This role combines direct ownership of assigned engine components—planning, design, development, execution, and production release—with broader responsibilities to provide system‑level guidance and technical judgment across the base engine team.
Essential Functions- Component Design: Serve as the design owner for assigned base engine components and subsystems, from concept through production release. Responsibilities include leading detailed planning, mechanical design, analysis, and production release activities; utilizing CAE to guide and interpret design decisions; authoring and maintaining component‑level design specifications; developing and executing Design Validation Plans (DVPs); working closely with Analysis, Thermodynamics, Mechanical Development, Manufacturing, Quality, Purchasing, and Suppliers;
leading fast‑paced, complex mechanical design projects; designing and interpreting cost‑effective experiments to reduce technical risk; challenging legacy solutions and introducing innovative, manufacturable designs; generating patentable ideas that lead to commercial success. - System‑Level Technical Leadership (As Needed): Act as a trusted subject‑matter expert for overall base engine architecture; provide engineering recommendations on system‑level tradeoffs involving performance, durability, NVH, weight, cost, and manufacturability; participate in design reviews, issue resolution, and root‑cause investigations across component boundaries; mentor and guide team members; help define and reinforce best practices and technical standards.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
- 10+ years of progressive experience in internal combustion engine design.
- Demonstrated ownership of critical base engine components.
- Broad understanding of overall engine system behavior.
- Proven ability to define and execute comprehensive Design Validation Plans.
- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes including casting, forging, machining, heat treatment, grinding, balancing, and assembly.
- Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
- Proficiency with Creo / ProE.
- Experience applying DFSS tools.
- Recognized technical leader within prior organizations.
Salary range: $118,400–$174,000 annually, depending on qualifications and location. Eligible for an annual discretionary bonus.
