Position Overview :

As part of the NVH & Structures Team, you will contribute to the development of industry-leading marine propulsion products by supporting noise, vibration, harshness (NVH), and structural testing activities. This role provides hands-on experience in product testing, data acquisition, signal analysis, and engineering problem solving while working alongside experienced engineers and technicians.

You will assist with laboratory and on-water test programs, collect and analyze acoustic and vibration data, and help identify opportunities to improve product performance, durability, and customer experience. This internship offers exposure to advanced instrumentation, data analysis techniques, and real-world product development processes while making meaningful contributions to Mercury Marine's engineering programs.

Essential Functions:

  • Support product test and development activities for the NVH & Structures Group, including laboratory, dynamometer, and on-water testing.
  • Assist with the setup, calibration, operation, and troubleshooting of NVH instrumentation, sensors, and data acquisition systems.
  • Acquire, process, and analyze acoustic, vibration, and structural response data to support engineering decisions and product development objectives.
  • Apply engineering fundamentals and digital signal processing techniques to evaluate and interpret test results.
  • Document test procedures, configurations, specifications, observations, and results in a clear and organized manner.
  • Prepare technical reports, presentations, and summaries that effectively communicate findings and recommendations.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues by defining problems, gathering data, performing root-cause analysis, and developing practical solutions.
  • Collaborate with engineers, technicians, and cross-functional teams to ensure project objectives, test requirements, and timelines are achieved.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives related to test methods, laboratory operations, and data analysis processes.
  • Follow all company safety practices, policies, and procedures.
  • Participate in marine vessel operation and support on-water testing activities as required.

Required Qualifications:

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from an accredited university.
  • Minimum second-semester sophomore standing with at least 48 completed credit hours.
  • Enrolled in an approved four-year engineering curriculum and formal university co-op or internship program.
  • Available to work full-time (40 hours per week) during the months of May through August of 2027
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and strong organizational skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Coursework or project experience related to vibrations, acoustics, structural dynamics, controls, or signal processing.
  • Hands-on experience with instrumentation, sensors, data acquisition systems, or engineering laboratory environments.
  • Familiarity with engineering analysis and data processing tools such as MATLAB, Python, LabVIEW, Simcenter Testlab, or similar platforms.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with knowledge of engines, powertrains, marine systems, or related equipment.
  • Experience with Formula SAE, Baja SAE, competitive engineering projects, undergraduate research, or similar hands-on technical activities.
  • Boating experience or familiarity with the operation of marine vessels.
  • Self-motivated learner who demonstrates initiative, curiosity, and a willingness to take on new challenges.
