Overview

The Addiction Medicine Advanced Practice Nurse Prescriber (APNP) provides direct care to patients with Substance Use Disorder (SUD), offers education and consultation, and participates in multidisciplinary collaboration (e.g., psychiatry, pharmacy, security) within the Wisconsin Department of Corrections (DOC). This role helps develop a broader SUD-related health care program across the DOC, including staff training, policy development, quality improvement, and utilization of management services to promote high-quality SUD care in accordance with BHS policies and professional standards within a correctional setting.

The Addiction Medicine APNP is part of the healthcare team with a focus on leadership and direction in addiction medicine and SUD treatment. The goal is to develop and implement evidence-based care that is cost-effective and responsible. The APNP will collaborate with correctional, administrative, and medical staff to develop plans that standardize evidence-based treatments throughout the DOC and provide education and consultation to primary care providers.

The APNP will also collaborate with the Division of Community Corrections and community partners to develop and implement a comprehensive plan to measure patient outcomes, maintain sobriety, and reduce recidivism.

Responsibilities
  • Provide direct care and medical management for patients with Substance Use Disorder within a correctional setting.
  • Lead, educate, and consult with multidisciplinary teams to implement evidence-based addiction treatment.
  • Collaborate with correctional, administrative, and medical staff to standardize treatments across the DOC and support primary care providers.
  • Develop plans in partnership with the Division of Community Corrections and community partners to measure outcomes and reduce recidivism.
Salary Information

This position is in pay schedule and range 11-11 with a starting pay of $53.00/hour-$71.10/hour. Pay will be set per the Compensation Plan and Wisconsin Administrative Code at hire. A probationary period is required.

Qualifications
  • Minimally qualified applicants will have experience developing, implementing, and evaluating treatment and/or specialized programs (e.g., treatment, clinical, social services, education, religious programs, structured activities).
  • Experience assessing, performing treatment planning, facilitating evidence-based curricula, and counseling clients with SUD.
  • Experience coordinating, developing, and/or delivering training that enhances evidence-based practices and supports organizational goals.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Current Wisconsin licensure as Advanced Practice Nurse-Prescriber or licensure in another state with eligibility to obtain Wisconsin licensure by time of appointment.
  • Valid personal DEA number.
  • Certification in BLS by the American Heart Association and training in AED usage; ability to perform BLS/first aid to prevent loss of life.
  • Enrolled, or eligible for enrollment, in Wisconsin Medicaid.
