Position Summary

As a Field Service Technician you will assist with on‑site installations, troubleshooting, repairs, and maintenance of telecommunications products and equipment sold and leased by TDS. The role involves direct, face‑to‑face contact with customers, proactive sales of TDS services and products, and demonstrating TDS products while seeking sales opportunities. Services include telephony, video/CATV/DBS, internet, and high‑speed networks.

Schedule

This role will be expected to follow a Wednesday–Saturday schedule, working four 10‑hour shifts (8:00 AM–7:00 PM). Additional overtime may be required as‑needed, and participation in an on‑call rotation is required.

  • Due to in‑field support and on‑call requirements, the individual selected for this position will be required to reside within a 60‑minute driving distance from the Plymouth, WI warehouse located at W4875 County Road U - Plymouth, WI 53073.

Field Service Technician Levels

This position can be hired at either a Field Service Technician (requisition  # ) or Field Service Technician‑Network (requisition  # ) level depending on the skills and qualifications of the candidate. Different job postings exist for each of these positions. Please reference each job posting for the minimum qualifications required for each role and submit an application for each level you are both interested in and qualified for.

Responsibilities
  • Assist with and perform on‑site installation, troubleshooting, testing, splicing, repairing, and maintaining telephone equipment and general network equipment, customer premise equipment, Video/CATV/DBS, fiber optic/copper facilities, and other TDS products & services for new and existing customers.
  • Identify defective cable using test equipment and repair buried, aerial, underground, and customer cabling. Locate cable and fiber in response to customer requests and construction needs. Pole climbing and operating construction equipment is required.
  • Locate, identify, and mark company underground and buried facilities to prevent damage. Keep an orderly log of all locate requests in the exchange area and perform cable fault acceptance tests on newly constructed facilities.
  • Respond to “trouble” dispatches and provide troubleshooting support techniques and corrections.
  • Support enhancing and maintaining record systems (cross‑connects, line groups, network elements, etc.).
  • Provide excellent customer service and proactively educate and sell TDS products and services to customers.
  • Gain working knowledge of RUS Standards and grounding practices associated with splicing and maintenance of outside plant facilities and equipment.
Qualifications
  • Required Qualifications
    • Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license.
    • Must follow the TDS attendance guidelines to meet business needs, including obligations to customers.
  • Other Qualifications
    • Upon hire, must successfully complete customer‑specific requirements, which may include a background check administered by the customer.
    • Must be available for on‑call/standby responsibilities; occasional travel and overtime may be required.
    • Upon hire, must successfully pass all components of the Safety Course curriculum.
    • Ability to maintain DOT (Department of Transportation) requirements for operating vehicles with a combined GVRW >10,000 lbs.
    • A+ certification and computer networking experience.
