Overview
Senior Fiber Construction Technician (Foreperson). TDS Telecom builds fiber networks and leads construction teams to install high-quality fiber infrastructure, ensuring safety, quality, and timely delivery.
About the RoleAs a Senior Outside Plant Construction Technician (Foreperson), you will oversee the construction and maintenance of fiber networks, lead a field team, coordinate people, equipment, and timelines, and ensure safety protocols are followed. This is a full-time, year-round role with hands-on field work.
What You'll Do- Lead and coordinate construction crews building fiber communications facilities.
- Operate advanced construction equipment, including: horizontal directional drills, trenchers, backhoes, end loaders, plows.
- Oversee day-to-day project execution, production, and quality.
- Coordinate with internal teams, contractors, inspectors, and utility partners.
- Enforce safety standards and ensure job sites meet safety expectations.
- Troubleshoot field challenges and keep projects moving forward.
- $5,000 sign-on bonus (payout terms apply).

- Receive maps and staking sheets and build projects with limited supervision.
- Communicate project updates to the team.
- Manage daily and weekly work schedules based on deadlines, materials, equipment, weather, and other factors.
- Coordinate with supervisor to ensure continuous work and material availability.
- Draft and submit redlines upon project completion.
- Ensure locates are performed on time before crew/equipment arrive.
- Engage municipalities, utility companies, suppliers, contractors, and property owners to coordinate tasks and avoid disputes.
- Read construction plans and permits and determine execution approaches.
- Maintain project documentation and track costs of materials and transfers.
- Ensure DOT inspections of equipment are performed.
- Collaborate with project managers to keep projects on schedule and within budget.
- Perform general construction labor in various conditions with a focus on safety.
- Advance operation of trenchers, backhoes, end loaders, plows, and other excavating equipment; operate test equipment for outside plant facilities.
- Install, troubleshoot, test, splice, repair, and maintain fiber optic facilities; locate defective cable and respond to customer needs.
- Provide training and coaching to team members and perform quality control inspections; enforce safety protocols.
- Service, clean, maintain, and repair equipment; complete related paperwork promptly; assist field services technicians as needed.

QualificationsRequired Qualifications
- 2+ years of construction equipment operation with various underground/aerial equipment (e.g., directional drills, trencher/plow/rock saw, backhoe, bucket trucks) or current military service with honorable discharge.
- 1+ years leading construction projects as a crew foreperson or project manager.
- Must follow TDS attendance guidelines to meet business needs.
- Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license and be eligible for DOT requirements.
Other Qualifications
- Ability to obtain a Class A CDL; current CDL preferred at hire, with in-house CDL certification available after hire.
