Location:

Remote, EST or CST preferred

Work Schedule:

M-F 9 AM - 5 PM with a half hour lunch break

Duration: 9 months

Compensation: $25-28/hour

Under the direction of the Deputy General Counsel for Labor and Employment, the Temporary Labor Relations Legal Assistant provides administrative and legal support to the Labor Relations and Employment team. This role focuses on labor relations administration, grievance management, litigation support, and coordination of union-related matters. The position works closely with internal stakeholders, outside counsel, and union representatives to ensure timely, organized, and compliant handling of labor relations matters.

Job Activities include but are not limited to:

1. Labor Relations Administration:
  • Coordinate meetings, bargaining sessions, grievance meetings, and labor-management meetings
  • Draft routine labor relations/employment correspondence and documents, including grievance responses, information request responses, meeting agendas, and follow-up communications.
  • Maintain grievance, arbitration, bargaining, and labor relations files
  • Track grievance deadlines, arbitration timelines, bargaining obligations, and other labor relations deliverables
  • Assist with preparation of bargaining materials, proposals, meeting binders, and presentation materials
  • Take detailed notes during bargaining sessions, grievance meeting, and other labor-management meetings
2. Litigation and Legal Support:
  • Assist Deputy General Counsel for Labor and Employment with labor and employment litigation matters.
  • Coordinate legal holds and assist with preservation of records.
  • Organize and review documents for discovery, subpoenas, and litigation requests.
  • Assist with document collection, production, and privilege review using litigation support platforms.
  • Prepare exhibits, chronologies, and case files for arbitrations, mediations, and other legal proceedings
  • Coordinate with outside counsel regarding document requests and litigation support needs.
3. Case and Project Management
  • Track labor relations matters, investigations, grievances, arbitrations, EEOC charges, and litigation using internal tracking systems.
  • Maintain organized electronic files
  • Track invoices from outside counsel and vendors and coordinate processing for payment
  • Assist with reporting and status updates for active labor relations matters
4. Union and Internal Support
  • Coordinate responses to union information requests
  • Assist with implementation and administration of collective bargaining agreements
  • Support labor relations training logistics and communications
  • Coordinate internal meetings with the People Department, managers, attorneys, and union representatives
  • Conduct research on prior grievance settlements, arbitration decisions, bargaining history, and historical practices
5. Miscellaneous Duties as assigned:
  • Labor or departmental projects as assigned.
  • Other ad-hoc duties and projects as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree or Paralegal Certificate, or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience
  • Experience supporting attorneys, Human Resources, Labor Relations, or Employment Law functions
  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail and accuracy and the ability to manage multiple priorities and projects
  • Ability to handle and safeguard confidential and sensitive employment information
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to troubleshoot and problem solve
  • Proficient in Google Workspace, Microsoft Office, Zoom, Everlaw, Titan File, Docu Sign, and Adobe tools
  • Commitment to and/or familiarity with Sierra Club’s mission and equity values
  • Experience with Workday or related HRIS systems
  • Familiarity with union environments and collective bargaining agreement implementation
  • Prior experience providing administrative and executive support
  • Experience conducting research on legal matters and drafting legal memoranda
