Job Title:
FGHS Summer School Peer Tutor
The job of Summer School Peer Tutor will work with other high school students one-on-one or in small groups to help students meet proficiency on Essential Standards. The Summer School Peer Tutor will be responsible for reporting to their assigned classrooms and checking in with students to see if they need help, or following the directions of the classroom teacher on how to assist the students or the teacher.
This position reports to the classroom teacher and administrators and does not supervise any employees.
- Responsible for providing academic support to students.
- Creates a welcoming environment for support.
- Collaborates with teachers and administrators, as well as other peer tutors.
- Confers regularly with the classroom teacher.
- Maintains consistent and predictable attendance to meet the requirements of the position.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Education: Successful completion of 10th or 11th grade by the end of the 2025‑2026 school year.
- Experience: Prior experience in tutoring preferred. Experience and training in assisting others. Experience in working with culturally diverse students.
- Skills: Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills. Excellent organization skills. Skills to use English in verbal and written form, use correct grammar, punctuation and spelling, as well as Spanish if possible.
- Knowledge: Knowledge and experience in various levels of Mathematics, Language Arts, Science, Social Studies, and how to explain concepts in those areas to other students.
- Abilities: Work harmoniously with others. Work and communicate effectively with students, members of the public and school personnel from diverse cultures or backgrounds in English, Spanish, or other languages related to the job. Work independently without supervision, and with minimum oral/written instructions. Ability to sit and/or stand for prolonged periods, understand and carry out oral and written instructions, meet schedules and deadlines, read/interpret/apply rules, regulations and policies.
Significant physical abilities include lifting/reaching/handling, talking/hearing conversations, near/far visual acuity, moving to various locations.
Pre-employment criminal justice fingerprint clearance and criminal background check.
Physical Requirements- Stand/Walk: 3-5 hours per day.
- Sit: 3-5 hours per day.
- Drive: 1-3 hours per day.
- Use hands for repetitive tasks: single grasping, pushing and pulling, fine manipulation.
