Forest Grove School District is seeking a collaborative, empathetic, and organized Summer Learning Counselor to support the implementation of the 2026 Summer Learning Program. The Counselor will work closely with district coordinators to manage student well‑being, facilitate social‑emotional learning (SEL), and oversee daily operations focused on student support and behavioral health.

Program Details
  • Initial screening will begin May 18th, 2026.
  • This position runs from June 18th – July 16th, 2026.
  • Duty day runs from 7:30 am – 2:30 pm (7 hours per day).
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
Program Goals
  • Implement trauma‑informed practices and supportive interventions.
  • Foster a sense of belonging through meaningful discourse and peer collaboration.
  • Provide immediate support and crisis intervention as needed.
  • Support teachers and assistants in managing classroom dynamics and student behaviors.
  • Ensure every student feels safe, seen, and ready to learn.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist district coordinators with daily operations, specifically focusing on student behavior and emotional support systems.
  • Provide individual and small‑group counseling interventions to help students navigate transitions and social challenges.
  • Serve as a resource for teachers and instructional assistants on classroom management and SEL strategies.
  • Assist with troubleshooting daily student needs and lead problem‑solving for behavioral or emotional escalations.
  • Act as a bridge between families, summer staff, and district coordinators regarding student progress and well‑being.
  • Assist with monitoring attendance, student placement, and the documentation of student support services for grant‑related reporting.
  • Participate in and help facilitate embedded professional learning sessions focused on mental health and restorative practices.
  • Assist with scheduling, transitions, and daily routines to ensure a predictable and calm environment for students.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Expectations & Professionalism
  • Exhibit flexibility, empathy, and high ethical standards throughout the program.
  • Support the "learning lab" model by encouraging staff to reflect on student interactions and climate‑building.
  • Help ensure that behavioral expectations and support protocols are applied equitably across all grade levels.
Qualifications

Required:

  • Valid Oregon Counseling License
  • Demonstrated leadership in Social‑Emotional Learning (SEL) and crisis intervention.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Experience supporting student mental health in an educational or summer program setting.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast‑paced, team‑oriented environment.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish skills preferred.
Work Schedule & Compensation
  • Preparation/Staff Training: Begins June 18, 2026.
  • Program Dates: June 22, 2026 – July 16, 2026 (½ day on July 17 for cleanup).
  • Weekly

    Schedule:

    Monday through Thursday (No Fridays).
  • Flexibility: Some evening or weekend hours may be required leading up to the program start for coordination and planning.

Compensation: Provided according to district summer school rates and applicable contractual agreements.

Salary: $36.22 to $71.20 Per Hour
