General Description Of Position:

The Admission Counselor of Undergraduate Admissions serves the office of undergraduate admissions. Reporting to the Assoc. Dir of Admissions for undergraduate admissions, the Admission Counselor will be assigned key recruitment territories, play a role in daily office procedures, and assist the Assoc. Dir of Admissions and the undergraduate admissions team in planning and implementing of undergraduate recruitment programs and strategies at the University.

Other responsibilities include recruitment travel, application review, interviewing, correspondence with students and counselors. Full participation in planning, implementing and participation in the general activities of the admissions office is expected.

Essential Functions/Major Responsibilities:

  • Recruit in the territory assigned by Assoc. Dir of Admissions for undergraduate admissions.
  • Develop and implement a prospect management philosophy within the territories to reach recruitment goals and agendas with the AVP for Enrollment.
  • Responsible for representing the undergraduate admissions office at college fairs and college nights as needed to reach the enrollment targets throughout the recruitment cycle.
  • Coordinate territory recruitment travel; represent the College recruitment program
  • Represent and interpret Pacific University accurately and persuasively to prospective students, parents, guidance counselors, teachers, and other constituencies.
  • Coordinate external and internal recruiting efforts open houses, preview days, and application workshops.
  • Correspond and/or meet with prospective students, applicants and others seeking information on admission standards, academic and non-academic programs and student activities; travel as necessary for receptions and presentations to enhance recruitment efforts.
  • Analyze qualifications of prospective students utilizing established admissions standards, guidelines and criteria, reviewing unusual circumstances with the Assoc. Dir of Admissions for undergraduate admissions as appropriate.
  • Perform statistical research on prospect and applicant pool using our student database.
  • Conduct market research.
  • Be willing to take on new projects and programs as needed throughout the recruitment cycle.

Secondary Functions

  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Working Conditions:

Normal office working conditions, job requires hours that may exceed 8 hours per day and/or 40 hours per week during peak periods, job requires ability to drive and travel. Travel is extensive during the Fall. This is a full-time position, with frequent evening and weekend work required.

Qualifications

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Behaviors:

  • Strong understanding of the mission, philosophy, and value system of private, liberal arts colleges.
  • Entry level understanding of prospect management philosophies and recruitment-based financial aid strategies.
  • Candidates are expected to be highly organized, attentive to detail, technically proficient, and dedicated to the office and the University.
  • Ability to work with an information technology based recruitment software package, Microsoft Office, and strong email and web skills.
  • Ability to work with a wide variety of people, high energy, creative initiative, flexibility, and a sense of humor are essential. The ability and confidence to exercise discretion while working independently, as well as the commitment to working as part of a team, are expected.
  • Evidence of good people skills, intra-campus relationships, good judgment, and flexibility.
  • Recruitment travel is required, a valid driver's license and a willingness to travel by air are required at the time of hiring and throughout the term of employment.
  • Experience in college or university admissions, financial aid, or enrollment development work.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills; strong public presentation skills, self-motivated work ethic.
  • A commitment of at least three years is expected, and career interest in admissions or counseling is preferred.
  • A Bachelor's degree is required, Master's Degree preferred.
