Overview
DCD Licensed Special Education Teacher 26-27. This role involves teaching students with developmental and cognitive disabilities, behavioral, language, and/or physical impairments, in English or Spanish where available, under the guidance of the Director of Special Education. Responsibilities- Provide differentiated instruction based on evidence-based practices in alignment with the general education classroom for academics and functional skills, tailored to each student’s ability levels and unique challenges.
- Develop appropriate methods for meeting and documenting educational goals and objectives for each child.
- Complete Special Education due process paperwork as needed.
- Develop curriculum materials using engaging and age-appropriate instructional strategies.
- Create a safe and welcoming classroom environment.
- Incorporate hands-on learning activities into daily instruction.
- Evaluate student performance through data collection.
- Communicate closely with and encourage parental involvement regarding program goals, classroom activities, homework, school functions and student progress.
- Infuse international-mindedness into the curriculum on a continual basis.
- Participate in regular planning and staff development activities.
- Maintain knowledge of current and emerging trends, procedures and evaluation processes in special education.
- Participate in professional development for language immersion, Responsive Classroom, and the International Baccalaureate Program.
- Required Qualifications:
Valid Minnesota teaching license.
Special Education Licensure in DCD.
Special Education Degree or Bachelor's Degree in Education or related field.
Fluent in English.
Experience working with students. - Preferences:
Training in the Responsive Classroom preferred.
Taught as a Special Education Teacher in a Responsive Classroom setting.
Speaks Spanish and/or Mandarin Chinese.

The LILA Foundation offers grants to pursue enriching experiences to share in the classroom; applications are competitive and awarded in April for use the following summer.
This position requires vocal communication, hearing, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, sitting, pushing, pulling, use of hands to grasp and feel, and vision abilities including close, distance, and adjusting focus. Lifting/moving up to 25 pounds frequently and up to 40 pounds or more occasionally. Work may involve exposure to blood borne pathogens and is generally in a moderately noisy location.
