Schedule:

Monday-Friday (4 days per week on student contact days), 7:15 a.m.

-2:30 p.m. Hourly Range: $15.50-$18.50 per hour (additional compensation available for candidates with a teaching license)

Position Summary:

The Basic Skills Paraprofessional provides targeted academic support to students in Spanish reading and/or math through small-group and individual interventions. This position works collaboratively with classroom teachers and the Basic Skills Coordinator to implement instructional strategies, monitor student progress, collect data, and support student growth. The ideal candidate is a Spanish-speaking educator who is flexible, collaborative, and committed to helping students achieve academic success.

  • Maintains a high standard of professional ethics, including confidentiality of student information, consistent with expectations for licensed educators.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Provide Spanish reading and/or math interventions to support students experiencing academic challenges.
  • Assist classroom teachers with literacy assessments and instructional support.
  • Collect and maintain student data to monitor progress and inform instruction.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to discuss student goals, instructional strategies, and academic growth.
  • Meet regularly with the Basic Skills Coordinator to review student progress and refine intervention strategies.
  • Participate in professional development and training opportunities as assigned.
  • Complete additional duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Basic Skills Coordinator or Building Principal.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Experience working with school-aged children is preferred.
  • High proficiency in Spanish required.
  • Experience supporting students in an educational setting is preferred.

Physical Requirements:

This work requires the occasional exertion of up to 100 pounds of force; moving student desks or tables; work regularly requires standing and speaking or hearing, frequently requires walking and stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling and occasionally requires sitting, using hands to finger, handle or feel, climbing or balancing, reaching with hands and arms, pushing or pulling, lifting and repetitive motions;

work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly or quickly; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, operating machines and observing general surroundings and activities;

work occasionally requires exposure to outdoor weather conditions and exposure to blood borne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic).
