Position:
Utility Locator (Full Time, Employee)
Location:
Forest Lake, MN 55025
Salary: $20.00 - $28.00 per hour, hourly rate

Northern Lights Locating and Inspection, Inc. (established 2001, providing locating, inspection, and sewer imaging services across the United States)
- Locate underground utilities for clients and property owners based on 811 tickets and applicable 811 dig laws.
- Use utility maps, as‑built civil engineering drawings, GIS information, and various pipe and electronic locating equipment.
- Utilize flags and/or paint to mark the location of underground utilities.
- Prepare reports, forms, and memos to document work completed and problems encountered and/or resolved.
- Take photographs of located utility lines for each 811 ticket.
- Investigate and prepare detailed written documentation on excavations that result in damage to underground utilities.
- Use a cell‑phone based app to record locating marks for clients, property owners, and excavators; app holds photos and enables completion of all required documents.
- Participate in on‑call rotation.
- Know best locate practices, procedures, and 811 law.
- Read and interpret utility maps and as‑built civil engineering drawings.
- Maintain cleanliness and good operating condition of all provided equipment and vehicle.
- Maintain a tobacco‑free vehicle.
- Locate underground utilities using multiple methods of locating.
- Understand and carry out written and oral instructions.
- Maintain small- to medium‑sized equipment and trucks.
- Complete paperwork and documentation.
- Communicate and use interpersonal skills to interact with coworkers, supervisors, the general public, etc., to exchange information and receive work direction.
- Show attention to detail.
- Be able to work in all weather conditions.
- Willingness to travel (75%+).
- Have excellent troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills.
- Able to pass a drug screen.
- Must have a valid Driver’s License and ability to obtain a DOT physical certification.
- Must be available to work varying schedules and overtime.
- Maintain regular attendance and punctuality.
- Self‑motivated and able to learn quickly.
