Bilingual Family Liaison
Clayton County Public Schools UNIDOS DUAL LANGUAGE SCHOOL - Forest Park, Georgia
Position Type: FULL TIME
Salary: $30,461 to $33,269 Paid based on salary scale
Grade and Step: Grade 20, 190-day position that pays for experience up to a step 4.
Position SummaryThis position provides interpreting services and basic translations to increase and improve parent, family, and community involvement. The Bilingual Family Liaison conducts workshops for parents and organizes events to foster family engagement. The liaison plays a key role in building communication between families and schools and must coordinate events and activities, including some evenings and weekends. This position reports to the Principal or designated assignee.
Key Job Responsibilities- Provides interpreting and basic translation services to support communication between families and school staff.
- Supports school staff in understanding the value of family engagement and helps build their capacity to establish strong relationships with families.
- Assists with the enrollment process of students new to the school and conducts orientation sessions for parents of immigrant and English Learner (EL) students.
- Facilitates workshops and classes for parents/families to strengthen home and school connections and improve student outcomes. Also conducts training and distributes timely, accurate information and materials to parents and school staff.
- Participates in the planning and preparation of school reports related to family engagement.
- Collaborates with community organizations to reach underserved and hard-to-reach families.
- Develops and implements parent education and involvement activities.
- Meets regularly with stakeholders to review progress and address any obstacles.
- All other duties as assigned and required to perform the above services.
Job Requirements
- Associates degree or 60 credit hours in related field required.
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience working with parents, families, and community members preferred.
- Bilingual and bicultural experience required. Must demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and the target language.
- Experience in building relationships with parents and working in diverse communities is preferred.
- Makes recommendations or decisions that usually affect the entire department/school.
- Requires regular, frequent communication with internal school administrative personnel.
- Prior experience communicating effectively with parents, schools, community, and District office personnel is highly preferred.
- Demonstrate ability to manage processes that increase productivity and engagement.
- Applies, recommends, and implements technology to improve the effectiveness of school operations.
- Normal classroom/school setting.
- Responsible for the welfare of others constantly (daily).
- Light duty – on most occasions, sitting at a desk or table; intermittently sitting, standing, or stooping.
- Light lifting or carrying; twenty (20) lbs. or less.
- Citizenship, residency or work visa required.
