Elementary Paraprofessional

The Elementary Paraprofessional provides student assistance for K-5 students under professional guidance and supervision of K-5 teachers in the district. Elementary paraprofessionals work with children individually or in small groups by providing basic instruction in abilities and skills developmentally appropriate to the student. This position is also responsible for assisting the teachers in a variety of settings and with a variety of scheduled activities for the successful operation of the program.

This position reports to the Principal or designee.

Key responsibilities include conducting small group or individual classroom activities with students based on lesson plans developed by the teacher, assisting with preparation of materials for instruction, typing and processing correspondence, operating the computerized circulation system and records, filing catalog cards, vertical file material, and order cards, assisting in inventory of materials and equipment, assuming responsibility for operation of the media center and supervision of students in the approved absence of the media specialist, assisting with routine record keeping, housekeeping, and school-wide supervision such as loading/unloading buses.

All other duties, as assigned and required, in order to perform the above services.

Key job requirements include holding an associate's degree or higher in any subject from a GaPSC-accepted accredited institution, completing two (2) years of college coursework (sixty [60] semester hours or [90] quarter hours) above the remedial level with a grade of "C" or better at a GaPSC-accepted accredited institution, or passing the GACE Paraprofessional Assessment and holding a minimum of a high school diploma or GED equivalent.

Paraprofessional experience serving school age children is desirable. Bilingual or bicultural experience is required for certain positions. Must hold or be eligible for a GaPSC-issued Paraprofessional License. The Certification Team will apply for the Paraprofessional License upon hire.
