Position SummaryUnder general supervision, serves as a support to the assigned classroom teacher or instructional area in providing educational opportunities for each student within Special Education. This position reports to the Principal or designee.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct small group or individual classroom activities with students based on lesson plans developed by the teacher.
- Assist with preparation of materials for instruction (including copying/duplicating materials, construction of bulletin boards, grading work, etc.).
- Perform special duties as required for meeting the unique needs of specific student populations (e.g., lifting physically disabled students, toileting/personal hygiene assistance, using physical restraints or other specialized behavior management techniques).
- Type and process correspondence, reports, orders, circulation, and catalog cards; operate the computerized circulation system and record keeping; assist in inventory of materials and equipment; assume responsibility for operation of the media center and supervision of students in the approved absence of the media specialist.
- Assist with routine record keeping, housekeeping, and school‑wide supervision such as loading/unloading buses.
- Perform all other duties, as assigned and required, to perform the above services.
Job Requirements
- Hold an associate’s degree or higher in any subject from a GaPSC‑accepted accredited institution; OR
- Have completed two (2) years of college coursework (sixty [60] semester hours or [90] quarter hours) above the remedial level with a grade of “C” or better at a GaPSC‑accepted accredited institution; OR
- Have passed the GACE Paraprofessional Assessment and hold a minimum of a high school diploma or GED equivalent.
Paraprofessional experience serving school‑age children desirable. Bilingual or bicultural experience required for certain positions.
Must hold or be eligible for a GaPSC‑issued Paraprofessional License. Eligibility is based on the education requirements outlined above. The Certification Team will apply for the Paraprofessional License upon hire.

Training and ExperienceTraining and/or experience in special needs of disabled populations such as first aid, ability to perform a two‑person lift for students as needed, or behavior management preferred.
Work ConditionsLight duty – On most occasions sitting at a desk or table; intermittent sitting, standing, or stooping. Moderate lifting or carrying; fifty (50) lbs. or less.
Additional InformationNOTE:
This is a grade 16, 190‑day position that starts at step 6 and pays for experience up to step 8.
FULL TIME
Salary$25,142.70 to $26,563.90 paid based on salary scale.
