Job Summary:

We are seeking experienced Line Design Engineers to join our Transmission Engineering team. This role is responsible for designing and supporting the construction of high-voltage transmission lines (HVTL), providing guidance on engineering standards, and ensuring high-quality execution of outsourced and internal line design projects. The ideal candidate is technically skilled in PLS-CADD, understands industry standards, and thrives in a collaborative utility environment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Apply engineering design criteria and software tools (e.g., PLS-CADD) for HVTL design
  • Prepare construction specifications, design options, and material estimates
  • Conduct quality assurance reviews for PLS-CADD line models and construction packages
  • Support HVTL system planning, design, operation, construction, and maintenance
  • Ensure alignment with NESC and Southern Company design standards
  • Collaborate with construction and maintenance teams during daily operations and emergency restoration
  • Guide and oversee contractors on outsourced design packages, ensuring quality and accuracy
  • Assist in developing and enforcing system design standards and criteria
  • Transmit complete construction packages and specifications to the field
Required Skills & Expertise:
  • Advanced knowledge of transmission line design practices
  • Proficiency with transmission line design (TLD) software, especially PLS-CADD
  • Strong problem-solving skills and decision-making capabilities
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong work ethic and a team-focused, positive attitude
  • Experience interfacing with plant staff, engineering teams, and vendors
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Professional Engineer (PE) License
  • Experience supporting emergency restoration efforts
  • Familiarity with Southern Company standards and internal systems

Work Environment:

  • Office-based with occasional field visits as required
  • Travel to project sites and construction areas as needed
