We are seeking experienced Line Design Engineers to join our Transmission Engineering team. This role is responsible for designing and supporting the construction of high-voltage transmission lines (HVTL), providing guidance on engineering standards, and ensuring high-quality execution of outsourced and internal line design projects. The ideal candidate is technically skilled in PLS-CADD, understands industry standards, and thrives in a collaborative utility environment.
Key Responsibilities:- Apply engineering design criteria and software tools (e.g., PLS-CADD) for HVTL design
- Prepare construction specifications, design options, and material estimates
- Conduct quality assurance reviews for PLS-CADD line models and construction packages
- Support HVTL system planning, design, operation, construction, and maintenance
- Ensure alignment with NESC and Southern Company design standards
- Collaborate with construction and maintenance teams during daily operations and emergency restoration
- Guide and oversee contractors on outsourced design packages, ensuring quality and accuracy
- Assist in developing and enforcing system design standards and criteria
- Transmit complete construction packages and specifications to the field
- Advanced knowledge of transmission line design practices
- Proficiency with transmission line design (TLD) software, especially PLS-CADD
- Strong problem-solving skills and decision-making capabilities
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong work ethic and a team-focused, positive attitude
- Experience interfacing with plant staff, engineering teams, and vendors
- Professional Engineer (PE) License
- Experience supporting emergency restoration efforts
- Familiarity with Southern Company standards and internal systems
Work Environment:
- Office-based with occasional field visits as required
- Travel to project sites and construction areas as needed
