Job Summary
The Line Construction Transmission Lineman role is part of a construction crew responsible for building and repairing high‑voltage transmission lines. This position supports state‑wide capital projects and storm restoration and requires climbing, operating machinery, and working in varied weather.
Key ResponsibilitiesSafely build and repair transmission lines and equipment.
Review work orders, determine materials, and load equipment.
Assemble and install materials using hand tools; work aerially from ladders, lift buckets, and climbing tools.
Climb transmission poles and structures (up to 200 feet).
Communicate effectively with team members.
Train, develop, and mentor fellow team members.
Maintain regular attendance and comply with safety procedures.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 4 years or more of certified Journeyman Lineman experience.
- Must demonstrate skills, knowledge, and ability by successfully completing the pre‑employment Transmission Journeyman Lineman Assessment.
- Valid driver’s license with Class A CDL.
- Experience installing, maintaining, and retiring transmission lines on voltages from 46kV to 500kV.
- Experience with construction machinery such as skid steers, excavators, back hoes, cranes or heavy load rigging and lifting.
- Structure climbing experience (up to 200 feet).
- Ability to work in an overhead position while on the structure.
- Pulling and splicing wires.
- Work in adverse outdoor conditions – day and night hours.
- Operate electrical systems – Transmission, Substation and Distribution Switching.
- Basic understanding of electrical distribution systems.
- Transmission Lineman experience on voltages from 46kV to 500kV.
- Previous experience on the Georgia Power system.
- Distribution Lineman experience.
- Energized transmission work experience.

Driver’s License and Commercial Driver's License (CDL)
- Must have at least one year of verifiable driving experience (no revocation within 36 months, no major traffic violations within 12 months, and no pending charges).
- Must consent to continuous monitoring of the motor vehicle record.
Pre‑Employment Testing
- Must pass the Construction and Skilled Trades Exam (CAST test).
Interview
- Must travel to a designated location in Georgia for the interview; travel and time are not paid.
Prior to Employment
- Pass a Post Offer Evaluation Test.
- Undergo a thorough background check and DOT drug screen after an offer is extended.
- PASS a Pre‑Employment DOT physical exam approved by the company physician and Worker's Compensation Medical Questionnaire.
- Offer contingent on completing all required fitness assessments.
- Weight restriction: must currently weigh and maintain body weight at or below 300 pounds fully dressed, including steel‑toed boots and hard hat.

Working Conditions:
all construction jobs require extended overnight stays throughout Georgia (up to 200 nights per year) and frequent work in extreme weather conditions.
- Collective bargaining agreement with Georgia Power Company and IBEW Local 84; union membership optional. Current starting pay is $8920 per month / $51.46 per hour and is not negotiable.
- Per diem will be paid at a rate of $178 per day
