Overview
Georgia Power is seeking experienced Apprentice Lineman candidates for statewide employment in Transmission construction. This position requires prior transmission line work experience and basic knowledge of wire pulling equipment and procedures. The Apprentice lineman will also be required to pass a pre‑employment evaluation and demonstrate the common skills, knowledge, and physical ability required for success.
Job responsibilities include weekly travel throughout Georgia. All travel expenses and hotel costs are the employee’s responsibility; a daily per diem of $178 is provided for overnight stays and work 50 miles from home.
Job SummaryMultiple openings for Apprentice Lineman who work in the construction of Transmission Lines throughout Georgia. Candidates must have at least 1 year as a Journeyman Lineman and will participate in a 3 – 3½ year training program. Those with 4+ years of certified Lineman experience may be considered for a 12‑month accelerated program.
The role is physically demanding, requiring four 10‑hour days per week, overnight and out‑of‑town stays, and up to 200 nights per year (cumulative).
Job Requirements- High School diploma or equivalent
- 1 year or more as Journeyman Lineman
- Transmission Lineman experience on voltages from 46 kV to 500 kV (preferred)
- Distribution Lineman experience (preferred)
- Basic mechanical and electrical aptitude or background
- Basic knowledge of hand tools
- Ability to read, understand, and follow procedures, rules, and regulations
- Ability to take instruction, direction and translate those into actions
- Ability to perform physically demanding activities while working outside in all weather conditions
- Construction machinery such as skid steers, excavators, backhoes, cranes or heavy load rigging and lifting
- Transmission Line Construction equipment and installation work on voltages from 46 kV to 500 kV

- Weight restriction: current and maintain weight at or below 300 pounds fully dressed (including steel‑toed boots and hardhat)
- Must be able to work in extreme weather conditions: heat, cold, rain, snow, and ice
- Construction and Skilled Trades Exam (CAST)
- Post‑offer Evaluation Test
- Background check and DOT drug screen after job offer
- Pre‑employment DOT physical exam and Worker's Compensation Medical Questionnaire
- Applicants must travel to a designated location in Georgia (typically Atlanta) for interview and pre‑employment tests; time and travel are not paid
- Current starting pay is $6,458 per month / $37.26 per hour (Union membership optional, not negotiable)
- Extensive training program including classroom and on‑the‑job training lasting approximately 3 to 3½ years
- Upon successful completion, eligible to bid on Lineman positions as they become available
- Position classified as Safety Sensitive; subject to pre‑employment fitness and background screening
