JOURNEYMAN LINEMAN FOR TRANSMISSION LINE CONSTRUCTION
Location:
HQ at 205 Southfield Parkway, Forest Park, GA. Assignments are for transmission construction crews with statewide coverage.

The Line Construction Transmission Lineman role is part of a construction crew responsible for building and repairing high‑voltage transmission lines. The role supports statewide capital projects and storm restoration efforts. Work includes climbing structures, operating machinery, and performing tasks in various weather conditions. Safety, teamwork, and technical expertise are essential. This is a physically demanding position with a schedule of four ten‑hour days.
Employees may be required to travel overnight and out‑of‑town, with up to 200 nights per year spent away from home.
Key Responsibilities- Safely build and repair transmission lines and equipment.
- Review work orders, determine materials, and load equipment.
- Assemble and install materials using hand tools; work aerially from ladders, lift buckets, and climbing tools.
- Climb transmission poles and structures up to 200 feet.
- Communicate effectively with team members.
- Train, develop, and mentor fellow team members.
- Maintain regular attendance and comply with safety procedures.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Four or more years of certified Journeyman Lineman experience.
- Must demonstrate skills, knowledge, and ability by successfully completing the pre‑employment Transmission Journeyman Lineman Assessment.
- Valid driver's license with Class A CDL.
- Experience with transmission line construction equipment and installation work on voltages from 46 kV to 500 kV.
- Experience operating construction machinery such as skid steers, excavators, backhoes, cranes, or heavy‑load rigging and lifting.
- Ability to climb structures up to 200 feet and work in overhead positions.
- Ability to pull and splice wires.
- Ability to work in adverse outdoor conditions day and night.
- Experience operating electrical systems – transmission, substation, and distribution switching.
- Basic understanding of electrical distribution systems.
- At least one year of verifiable driving experience and clean driving record per Georgia Power fleet requirements.
- Experience as a transmission lineman on voltages from 46 kV to 500 kV.
- Previous experience working on the Georgia Power system.
- Distribution lineman experience.

- Weight restriction: must weigh 300 pounds or less, fully dressed including steel‑toed boots and hard hat.
- Position covered by collective bargaining agreement between Georgia Power and IBEW Local 84. Union membership is optional.
- Current starting pay: $8,920 per month / $51.46 per hour (not negotiable).
- Per diem: $178 per day with substantiation of overnight lodging expenses and minimum 50 road miles traveled.
Position classified as “Safety Sensitive” and requires relevant pre‑employment screening to determine fitness for duty. All fitness assessment requirements are mandatory.
